While Aussie headlines have had been populated by some shocking student accommodation stories of late, Perth in Western Australia is undergoing an affordable student housing development boom.
Set to open in 2019, Campus Perth is the latest of these housing options, adding another 700 beds for domestic and international students. All-inclusive fees to stay at the flashy new apartments start at just AU$162 (US$122) per week, according to a recent report in The West Australian newspaper.
This would make the accommodation much cheaper than equivalent student accommodation in other major Australian cities like Sydney, Melbourne or Canberra.
But there’s no shortage of services at Campus Perth: all rooms come pre-furnished with free WiFi, air conditioning and utilities are included with rent. Students have a choice of one of four room types.
It is located “smack bang” in the middle of the Northbridge and East Perth neighbourhoods; boasts a rooftop barbecue area, fitness club and a “campus guru” to organise social events and yoga classes for residents.
The tower is also super safe, with 24-hour CCTV, card access doors and doctors on-call around the clock.
Perth is home to number of leading universities, including Murdoch University, the University of Western Australia, Curtin University and Edith Cowan University.
Executive director of Study Perth, Phil Payne, said the new towers would have “a tremendous positive impact on the CBD”.
Another AU$70 million development has been approved for central Perth, providing yet another 713 student beds, a cinema, pool, gym and gaming room.
