Kelley School of Business: Advance your career with flexible, online MS programmes

The language of business is numbers, but their true power lies in interpretation and strategic application. When predicting customer behaviour, crafting data-driven marketing strategies, or mitigating financial risks, advanced expertise transforms you into a translator — the kind who can turn numbers into actionable insights that drive business success.

However, career advancement often requires stepping away from work, an almost impossible prospect for many professionals. Enter the online graduate programmes offered by Indiana University Bloomington’s Kelley School of Business. Ranked #1 for Best Online MS Programmes by US News & World Report 2023, Kelley has prestige and extensive experience in online education, delivering highly-ranked programmes for the past 25 years. This is a business school that has built a deep understanding of how to design and run online specialised master’s degrees for today’s working professionals.

Designed for flexibility, crafted for impact

In 2024, the school is launching an Online MS in Business Analytics and an Online MS in Finance. Both are housed within the Kelley Executive Education Programmes (KEEP) Office.

Here’s how it works — each academic quarter lasts 12 weeks, with students choosing one to three classes per quarter to complete the degree at their own pace.

“These 100% online programmes are designed for working professionals to achieve greater skills and knowledge in Business Analytics or Finance,” says Dr. Carolyn Goerner, Faculty Chair of Kelley Executive Education Programmes. “Each MS covers topics related to Business Analytics or Finance practice. The focus is on creating professionals with the knowledge and skills to be identified as functional experts within their companies or organisations.”

The curriculum emphasises real-world application, ensuring working professionals can immediately leverage their newfound expertise. Weekly modules and assignments are accessible 24/7, allowing students to work on them around their schedules. Recorded faculty-led lessons provide comprehensive instruction, viewable at the student’s convenience.

Optional live sessions are available for those seeking more immediate interaction. Here, you can engage with instructors, clarify concepts, and understand connections between topics. These sessions are led by the same professors who created the courses, ensuring you learn directly from Kelley School of Business experts.

“These recordings contain the material typically found in the lectures that these professors share with students studying on the IU campuses,” Dr. Goerner says. “The same faculty also facilitate live sessions where students can ask questions, work through cases, and engage in interactive learning.”

Stackable credentials, accessible education

Another highlight of KEEP is its introduction of Kelley School of Business’s first “stackable” degree. Students can apply for a graduate certificate and apply all credits towards an MS degree upon completion of the four courses. This approach makes education more accessible, allowing students to complete a graduate certificate first before committing to an MS degree. It also eases students unfamiliar with online education into the format — and what better way to do this than with a school that has been leading online education for decades?

“For some people, that might be their first experience in online education, and they do not want to commit to a full MS degree,” says Dr. Alex Lopes, Associate Chair for Kelley Executive Education Programmes. “For others, they might desire to simply concentrate on a more compact set of topics that would bring immediate benefits to their careers.”

Either way, KEEP ensures that you further your education at your own pace and according to your flexibility.

MS programmes tailored for success

The Online MS in Business Analytics builds a strong foundation in business analytics concepts. Students complete 10 online courses totalling 30 credit hours, covering topics like Quantitative Analysis, Predictive Analytics/Data Mining, and Data Intelligence and Visualization. With an MS in Business Analytics, graduates can position themselves as brand analytics managers, e-commerce project managers, web metrics analysts, or consultants to senior decision makers. They’ll be highly sought after by businesses worldwide seeking to leverage data for innovation and competitive advantage.

The Online MS in Finance prepares students for career advancement with 10 online courses totalling 30 credit hours. Courses include Quantitative Methods and Introduction to Analytics, Managing Accounting Information for Decision-Making, and Economics for Managers. This MS develops the sound financial reasoning necessary for aspiring CFOs to achieve their organisation’s strategic goals — as can be seen in the school’s notable list of alumni. The Kelley School is ranked the fourth producer of sitting CFOs among public universities (Crist|Kolder Volatility Report, 2023).

Kelley’s commitment to online education is evident in its long history and alumni network.  The school has the largest living alumni network in the country at 130,000 strong, fostering a valuable support system for graduates. This is possible due to the school’s effort to create enduring connections in their online and offline learning environment.

“We ensure quality through regular student evaluation of faculty and their sessions, standardised goals for faculty-student contact hours, and continual communication between faculty and staff to ensure students receive the content and attention they need,” says Dr. Goerner.
