Looking to earn the big bucks? The money, apparently, is in healthcare and tech.
In its annual list of best-paying jobs in US, job and recruitment site Glassdoor reveals these two sectors pay workers the most.
Physicians take the top slot with a median base salary of US$187,876 for the third year in a row, followed by pharmacy managers (US$149,064) and patent attorney (US$139,272).
Glassdoor’s 2017 list also shows the healthiest wages go to 11 technology-related jobs, as well as six healthcare job titles and three finance careers.
Jobs not solely related to these three industries are hardly represented in the list.
According to Glassdoor chief economist Andrew Chamberlain, tech and healthcare industries feature prominently due to certain key factors.
In an emailed statement to Los Angeles Times, he explains: “High pay continues to be tied to in-demand skills, higher education and working in jobs that are protected from competition or automation.”
“That is why we see several jobs within the technology and healthcare industries.”
While pay is one big factor to job seekers, Glassdoor’s research shows, however, salary isn’t always tied to long-term job satisfaction.
“Rather, the factors employers should focus on to drive employee satisfaction long-term are having great senior leadership, positive culture and values, and clear upward career opportunities,” Chamberlain said.

To compile its list, Glassdoor only used salary reports keyed into its site by US employees over the last year.
Only job titles with at least 100 salary reports were considered, thus revealing one downside to its results: it is not 100 percent comprehensive.
Although the company has tweaked its algorithm to control factors such as location and experience, the list is still limited in scope by who submits reports and to some degree, by how they name and categorise their jobs.
“For the everyday job seeker, it provides more of a guide,” Glassdoor spokesman said. “It certainly is not a perfect science.”
