“We are…widely recognised for the practical and applied nature of our courses, which equip graduates with essential skills through exposure to industry and business, and as well as our research, which focuses on solving real world problems.” – Professor Jim Mienczakowski, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive, Curtin Malaysia
Nestled in Sarawak, a Malaysian region famed for its stunning natural wonders and vibrant cultural heritage, Curtin University’s Malaysian campus builds on a distinctly global presence. This revered institution also holds study sites in Perth, Dubai and Singapore, standing as a world-class education provider with a universal footprint.
Here, students form part of an international community more than 51,000 strong. Regardless of where you are, every Curtin campus is alive with inspiration, offering hi-tech learning spaces and a study schedule that transforms student lives. Whether you’re an eager trainee engineer or an aspiring corporate professional, Curtin Sarawak grants the tools you need to turn your talent into career success.
“We offer students the unique opportunity to pursue courses from a celebrated Australian university right in the heart of tropical East Malaysia,” the faculty explains. “Our internationally recognized degrees are identical to those awarded in Australia. The difference is our unique location on the west coast of Sarawak, with 187,000 hectares of coastal reef on our doorstep and the 140 million year old rain forests of Borneo in our backyard.”
In line with its vision to enrich and innovate, Curtin’s Malaysia campus has a brand-new range of courses being implemented next semester. Covering concepts and topics relevant to the 21st century world, students who pursue these comprehensive, contemporary programmes are destined to lead their respective fields.
Bachelor of Science – Software Engineering
Software engineering is defined as the application of a systematic, disciplined and quantifiable approach to the development, operation and maintenance of software. This three year course from Curtin Malaysia will form a stream under the Bachelor of Science (Computing), focusing on the creation of high-quality software in a systematic, controlled and efficient manner.
The engineering approach to software construction emphasises analysis and design, specification and evaluation of software. It’s about creating high-quality software in a systematic, controlled and efficient manner. The programme adds a new dimension to software development and the evolution of software-based systems in the rapidly-evolving information and communications technology industry.
Bachelor of Applied Science – Construction Management
This four-year programme in construction management has been formed in collaboration with construction industry professionals. Set on priming students for a range of professional roles within building and construction, it’s inherently management-oriented, homing in on a range of interrelated disciplines – including domestic, commercial and civil construction.
The course covers core topics such as construction technology, measurement and estimating, project management, contracts administration, and building law and economics. Communication is fundamental to construction and computer applications are widely used, and students here gain critical communication and computer skills in the ever-growing field of Building Information Modelling (BIM) tools.
Students are required to undertake 80 days of work experience to further enhance their knowledge and expertise. The course is fully recognised by the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education and is also professionally accredited by the Australian Institute of Building, the Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors, the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, and the Board of Quantity Surveyors, Malaysia. Graduates go on to obtain employment in various roles, such as quantity and building surveyors, building contractors, contract administrators, project managers, construction managers, estimators and property developers.
Bachelor of Science – Cyber Security
Introduced to serve popular demand, the three-year Bachelor of Science (Computing) Cyber Security stream keeps you current, engaged and helps you make an impact. Feeding an ever-growing need for computer science professionals in this fast-growing field, this programme encompasses technologies, processes and practices designed to protect networks, computers, programmes and data from attack, damage and unauthorised access.
Curtin Malaysia’s Faculty of Engineering and Science grants an industry-connected academic experience that invigorates both the engineering and scientific communities. Here, faculty strive to be nationally and internationally-recognised leaders in the research fields of both engineering and science, gifting students with the best possible start to a related industry career.
“We are located in a region famed for its…emerging processing and manufacturing industries, and with over 4000 students from more than 50 countries, we offer students a truly international and cross-cultural learning environment in a unique Malaysian setting,” Professor Mienczakowski explains. “Inevitably,” he adds, “this adds a rich and valuable dimension to our campus atmosphere and also prepares our graduates to live and work in an increasingly global environment.
“…This combination enables graduates to be effective in the workplace immediately upon graduation,” the Pro Vice-Chancellor concludes.
“Curtin Malaysia is a vibrant international institution with an exciting future and I invite you to join us on our exciting journey forward.”
