You can get 50% off your postgrad tuition at this Australian university

Droves of international students are making their way to the Land Down Under now that borders are no longer slammed shut. If you’re among the thousands of students who wants a coveted Australian education, Western Sydney University is currently offering postgraduate students 50% off its tuition fees under one of its scholarships.

The university offers a range of scholarships for international students seeking admission to postgraduate programmes.

Western Sydney University: Scholarship for international students

Western Sydney University’s Vice-Chancellor’s Academic Excellence Postgraduate Scholarships will cover 50% of the cost of students’ tuition fees for two years. Here’s what you should know:

Eligibility

This scholarship is eligible for new international students commencing a new course of study in 2021.

You must have received an offer of admission to Western Sydney University and satisfy the academic requirements for the scholarship (i.e. a minimum GPA of 5.95 on a 7 point scale or equivalent in their completed most recent undergraduate degree).

Application 

The university’s website notes that no application is necessary as all new applications will be automatically considered for a scholarship. A panel of officers will carry out short-listing twice a year.

You’ll be requested to provide a statement supporting your application indicating how you believe the scholarship will assist you with your studies and future career. Successful applicants will be notified via email by the university.

What courses are covered

Western Sydney University notes that this scholarship covers all CRICOS registered postgraduate coursework degrees with a minimum of one year and up to a maximum of two years duration. Postgraduate research degrees are excluded.

Benefits

Western Sydney University’s Vice-Chancellor’s Academic Excellence Postgraduate Scholarships is a tuition fee waiver. 

It covers 50% of the tuition fee per session for full-time enrolment for the duration of the degree not exceeding two years.

It doesn’t cover costs associated with living expenses, accommodation, transport, overseas student health cover or other costs associated with your study.

Australia is home to many of the world’s top 100 universities, many of which offer scholarships for numerous programmes, be it PhD to master’s programmes.

The University of Sydney, for instance, offers an International Scholarship. It covers both tuition fee and stipend scholarships via the Australian Government Research Training Programme – is worth 35,629 Australian Dollars (2021 rate). It has four research periods; the submission deadline is Sep. 30, 2022 should you apply in Research Period 1 and 2, 2023.

Deakin University (DU) has great options for scholarships, grants and financial aid for international students at the postgraduate level. For instance, there’s the Deakin Vice-Chancellor’s International Scholarship that covers students’ full tuition or up to 50%.
