Unforgettable. That’s the word Anmar Kamalaldin uses to describe his time in the International Foundation Programme at the University of Warwick.
“It was the year that I started my journey of studying abroad. Thus I made a lot of friends, whom I am still in contact with,” says the Warwick IFP graduate. “It is truly an unforgettable year to me, with many beautiful memories. Yes, there were times of stress, with wanting to do well with studies and assignments, but that was part of the learning experience as well.”
After completing the one-year course, international students will be ready for their future undergraduate studies. Just ask Christina Mou, a second-year student studying management at Warwick Business School.
“On the academic side, the IFP course laid the foundation of my business knowledge which made the concepts and theories in class more understandable and approachable. The assignment format was also aligned with the undergraduate programme; hence I was more confident when dealing with essays and exams,” she explained.
The course enhanced her communication skills, improved her ability to work in a team, and trained her to be more organised – skills crucial in the business world.
Students can choose from one of 10 academic courses that will expose them to the rigorous curriculum, teaching style and learning common of a UK degree programme. These courses cover Arts and Humanities, Biological Sciences and Psychology, Business Management, Computer Science, Economics, Finance, Law, Mathematics and Statistics, Physics and Engineering, and Social Sciences.
For students whose English is not their main language, support is available in the form of English tuition tailored to each course and ability level.
The best part? Warwick IFP students live and study on campus. They gain access to all of the same clubs, societies and facilities used by the university’s undergraduate and postgraduate students – all while mingling with their peers that can come from over 30 countries.
Similarly, the University of Warwick’s Summer School offers a condensed, yet equally impactful experience. In three weeks, participants debate with renowned academics, enjoy an engaging social and cultural programme, and live alongside their peers on the beautiful Warwick campus located close to Coventry and England’s second city, Birmingham.
Some of the top guest speakers who have spoken at Warwick Summer School include the former Cabinet Secretary and Head of the UK Civil Service, Lord Gus O’Donnell, and Nobel Prize Winning Economist George Akerlof and Gold-edal winning Alpine Skier, Kelly Gallagher.
Students can choose between a range of specialist, intermediate or introductory-level courses across Economics, Science, Business and Social Sciences. Each is taught by experienced faculty members who drive intellectual curiosity through lectures, seminars, workshops, and many more.
Students explore key marketing concepts like market analysis, customer values, and implementing market strategies through Communications and Marketing, learn the basics of Artificial Intelligence, or explore political systems in the Politics and International Relations course.
It’s an experience that helps students like Patrik Kučera to love learning. “The lectures and seminars made me switch my mindset from ‘I am studying’ to ‘I am enjoying the things I am passionate about and want to know more’ – all thanks to the amazing teaching team,” Kučera shares.
Outside the classroom, Warwick Summer School offers a selection of social events and day trips. “Having the opportunity to visit central London, Oxford, and The Making of Harry Potter with other students allowed us to get to know each other and, most importantly, have fun throughout the three weeks,” one student from Portugal shared.
Little wonder why Warwick Summer School has attracted students from over 64 different countries. Over 99% of the participants would recommend the programme to a friend.
That result is made possible by the University of Warwick’s stellar reputation. The Russell Group university is named as one of the UK’s top 10 universities in the Guardian University Guide 2023 and Times Higher Education’s World University Rankings 2022. It is also the UK’s best university for teaching quality (The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2022).
