SKEMA Business School: MSc programmes evolving professionals into leaders

Achieving an advanced degree is a pivotal step for anyone aspiring to thrive in the highly competitive landscape of international business. However, in an era defined by digital transformation and accelerating scientific progress, nothing guarantees global success quite like a globally recognised Master of Science (MSc) programme. From its three campuses in France, SKEMA Business School offers plenty of those — all of which were designed to boost the employability of those looking to climb the ladder locally or pivot into new industries abroad.

“Switching careers is a herculean task, but obtaining my master’s degree from SKEMA made it far more manageable,” says Tanmay Singh, an MSc International Marketing and Business Development graduate. “This MSc equipped me with the tools I needed to succeed in a new industrial setting. It was a transformational journey both academically and professionally.”

Indeed, SKEMA’s MSc programmes are meticulously designed to propel students to new heights, anywhere in the world. They come in both one-year and two-year formats, accommodating individuals with varying educational and professional backgrounds. Whether armed with a four-year degree, two months of professional experience, or a three-year university degree and 36 months of professional exposure, SKEMA provides a pathway to success for all.

Delivered entirely in English, each programme draws from the school’s extensive research and close partnerships with businesses worldwide. These relationships ensure graduates are not only technically proficient but also equipped with the leadership and management skills coveted by today’s companies and organisations.

“The frequent contacts with big companies enabled me to network with managers and facilitated the job search after that,” says graduate Niklas Jankovic. “Working on projects with people from different professional backgrounds and countries was a vital element. This experience is highly valued by employers and helped me during my internship at BMW Group.”

Both Singh and Jankovic chose the MSc International Marketing and Business Development as their launchpad to success. This programme was designed to nurture the core competencies required for a successful career in marketing, business or both: brand management, innovation and creativity, strategic marketing, marketing analytics, consumer insights, international scale-up, application of operational marketing, as well as sales and business development. Its comprehensive curriculum has propelled it to rank #8 in the world, according to the QS World University Rankings — Masters In Marketing 2023.

The MSc Global Luxury and Management programme is a better fit for students keen on getting a taste of the industry’s fast-paced dynamics. The programme mirrors the actual workings of luxury enterprises, encouraging students to dive deep into the essence of luxury and gain a profound understanding of its significance. However, it also looks ahead with its strong emphasis on driving positive change through more sustainable practices.

Students on this route begin their programme in New York City hosted by the NYU School of Professional Studies (SPS), an institution that sets the standard for industry-focused education. Their second semester unfolds in the city of lights and luxury, Paris — where the SKEMA Business School is based. Hence, upon successful completion of the programme, students are awarded both an MSc in Global Luxury and Management and a professional continuing education certificate from NYU SPS. The combination elevates careers, evident through the fact that 100% of graduates secure employment within six months of completing their studies.

SKEMA’s MSc Global Supply Chain Management and Procurement is also delivered in cooperation with a world-leading university. Alongside the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Centre for Transportation and Logistics, it is nurturing a new generation of world-changers, armed with soft skills in supply chain management and purchasing management and a solid foundation in digitalisation and artificial intelligence, sustainability, ethics, globalisation, risk management and agility.

Upon successful completion, students receive five course certificates and an MITx MicroMasters® Programme in SCM credential issued by edX and MITx. They also become MIT affiliate alumni.

“This programme really fast-tracked my career,” says graduate Frédéric Fayol. After leaving SKEMA with multiple new qualifications, he swiftly ascended the career ladder, commencing as a buyer in the construction sector. Then, he moved to the logistics industry, where he was immediately put in charge of real estate sourcing before taking over the company’s procurement department at the age of 28.

Then, after an enriching tenure in consulting, Fayol returned to the corporate world as the Global Indirect Purchasing Director of Nexans, where he commanded a colossal budget of nearly one billion euros, overseeing a team of 50. Today, he is a Partner at JICAP Performance and a proud member of the MSc Global Supply Chain Management and Procurement Advisory Board.

Fayol’s trajectory stands as a testament to the unparalleled impact of a SKEMA education, illustrating how it can catapult an individual from a promising graduate to a seasoned leader at the helm of a global enterprise.
