EU Business School: Your launchpad to international success

If you seek a career in promoting peace, stability, prosperity and sustainable development on a global scale, take a deep dive into the disciplines of international diplomacy or relations in bustling Geneva. Often referred to as the “capital of diplomacy,” the city is home to many global organisations, including the United Nations, the World Health Organisation (WHO), the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and the World Trade Organisation.

Training people for positions within these spaces is EU Business School – a high-ranking institution with over 50 years of experience in offering English-taught foundation, bachelor’s, master’s and MBA programmes in subjects that foster entrepreneurship, innovation and leadership.

EU’s MBA in International Business is a solid choice for students looking to navigate a world with fewer borders. Michael Mihut from Romania pursued the programme to augment his expertise in international business and management and enhance his role at the WHO. “The knowledge I acquired provided me with the right tools to expand my work in finance and external relations, and to manage projects and programmes more effectively,” says the graduate, who is currently a TDR (the Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases) Programme Manager.

EU’s latest offering, the Master in Digital Diplomacy and International Relations (in partnership with UNITAR) addresses the intersection of digital communication, international relations and diplomacy.

“As marketing communication techniques spread, propaganda became more subtle, with fake news and techniques used to influence public opinion. This is happening in a world where social media provides platforms for political leaders to communicate,” says Stef de Jong, Academic Dean. “Communication techniques need to be learnt, understood, taught, and used ethically. We need to discover, detect, act and counteract, to make humanity move into a next stage of global structuring. To this purpose, we work with major actors and associations, from cybersecurity to applied global market research.”

Developed in collaboration with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research, the programme has been designed to provide swift entry into careers in international organisations, foreign service, policy-making, international business, nonprofits, and journalism, among others. De Jong explains: “Our mission is to help create opportunities and be involved until the experience level is senior enough to continue the path.”

What both qualifications have in common is their emphasis on real-world learning. For both routes, comprehensive curricula are coupled with hands-on experiences that mirror the dynamic challenges of each field. “Due to EU’s connection with Nestlé, I managed to get an internship and then permanent employment,” shares Bernie Stefan, an MBA in International Business graduate and the current vice president of Nestlé Asia. “If you’d have asked me then if I’d be working for the same company 20 years later, I’d have laughed at you!”

Digital Diplomacy and International Relations students can look forward to projects like conducting a productivity analysis for the UN, sustainability initiatives with major multinationals, incubator startups, leadership programs, consulting projects and more. “The productivity analysis for a UN organisation develops students’ knowledge of the how and why of international organisations and developing a report with recommendations that change the world,” says de Jong.

Students at EU immerse themselves in real-world business environments through visits to companies and organisations such as BMW and United Nations agencies, field trips, case studies, business simulations, and guest speaker sessions. The school’s flagship Learning From Leaders conferences have provided students with insights from Waqaas Al-Siddiq, the Founder & CEO of Biotricity Inc.; Vanessa Moungar, Group Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer at LVHM; Alexandra Durbak, Chair of the Board of Directors at Amnesty International USA; Adrian Hallmark, the Chairman and CEO of Bentley Motors Ltd; and Peter Brabeck-Letmathe, Chairman Emeritus of Nestlé.

As EU faculty members are also well-connected entrepreneurs, consultants and business leaders, classes are relevant and offer students a clear picture of the industries that they will enter upon graduation.

“My studies at EU were different from what I was used to — the professors would give us a business case to solve, and there was never a right or wrong answer,” shares Yulia Kozlova from Kazakhstan, who completed an MBA in Global Banking and Finance.

Those who have already joined the working world but are looking to fast-track their climb up the corporate ladder also find everything they need and more at EU.

“My MBA from EU gave me a great start as I almost doubled my salary!” affirms MBA in International Marketing graduate Irina Kozlova from Russia, who is now a Senior Product Marketing Manager for The Estée Lauder Companies Inc.

“The careers department at EU gave me some great advice, helped me with my CV and even organised a photo shoot so I could get a great profile photo. I got an internship in international marketing at L’Occitane en Provence, which had both a short-term and long-term influence on my career. Over the long term, my international education and work experience abroad led to my relocation to Paris,” she explains.

At EU, it’s easy to prepare for outstanding professional outcomes abroad. With a multicultural student body and faculty representing over 100 nationalities, the school is a rich and diverse learning environment that equips students to thrive in global contexts.

Support is available at every step of a student’s journey at EU. “To succeed personally and professionally, our students need support with their mental and physical health as well as in the classroom and the business arena. We take the concept of the ‘whole student; very seriously and this is reflected in our student success stories,” says Rebecca Pignot, Director of Admissions. “Through faculty and staff support, and the benefits of studying in a multicultural and diverse environment, students are accompanied in their journey through their studies and given a safe space to confront the challenges that are ever present in this changing world.”
