Sydney’s Macquarie University is offering a full scholarship to foreign students that will cover the cost of their tuition fees up to AUD50,000 (US$37,839) per year, through the second edition of its Big History International Student Undergraduate Scholarship.

To be eligible, students need to complete a six-week Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) titled Big History: Connecting Knowledge through Coursera, a website that partners with top universities and organisations to offer courses online.

According to Hindustan Times, the scholarship is open for all undergraduate courses, which usually take between three or four years, depending on the programme of study.

Interested students should apply before June 30 after which their application will be considered for the 2018 scholarship.

Twenty academics from Macquarie are featured in the 39 videos that make up the Big History course. The course weaves several academic disciplines to tell the story that began 13.8 billion years ago with the Big Bang. Students will learn about “Big History”, critical thinking and “Three Thresholds of Increasing Complexity”, that is, the milestones around which Big History is organised.

One review wrote: “Really great course! This is a great way to look at multiple sciences and areas of knowledge, and Big History is a cool concept.”
