Capitol Technology University: Master the in-demand fields of software engineering, cybersecurity, or AI

The world needs computer scientists the way it needs doctors and engineers. They are a force that propels technology forward, driving the world towards innovation and invention. The field of computer science is extensive, with both new and foundational areas of study becoming increasingly relevant and important in today’s world.

Located between Washington D.C. and Maryland, one of the United States’ most vibrant technology corridors, Capitol Technology University’s 52-acre campus offers plenty of opportunities for computer scientists. “Capitol Tech will open a world of possibilities for any student willing to put in the work necessary to achieve their goals,” says recent Bachelor of Science in Computer Science graduate Leif Heaney. And it’s true – 82% of students received a job offer or chose to go to graduate school within three months of commencement.

The university’s Master of Science in Computer Science programme prepares you to thrive in a global economy. The programme has three specialised tracks: Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, Cybersecurity, and Software Engineering. Careers in these specialisations are high in demand; four roles (software developer, IT manager, information security analyst, and data scientist) place in the top 10 jobs in US News & World Report’s 100 Best Jobs of 2024.

Mastering AI will place you at the forefront of the field. Reports show that demand for the increased use of AI has multiplied four and a half times between 2019 and 2023, and having a command of this skill is quickly becoming a common preference across job postings. The curriculum centres on the skills necessary to navigate your future career.

Core courses like Predictive Analytics equip you with the knowledge of data mining and data science methods and technologies needed to implement predictive analytics solutions. Meanwhile, the Design of Cloud Networks and Services course helps students understand the design and architecture of networks to enable the delivery of business-grade cloud services. The Database Systems Implementation course then introduces the Database Management System architecture and implementation issues in indexing, warehousing, storage structures, and access management.

The elective courses further develop this foundational knowledge and give you the specialised skills to gain a competitive edge in the job market.

For the Artificial Intelligence and Data Science track, the Computer Vision and Deep Learning course covers modern developments in computer image processing; those seeking to specialise in Software Engineering can sign up for the Introduction to Software Design with UML course, which introduces concepts like object-oriented principles and concepts, interfaces, and software lifecycles. The Cybersecurity track’s Computer Forensics and Incident Handling course takes you through the laws, ethics, and practices of computer forensics issues.
