Dreaming of earning a UK degree but unsure where to begin? Starting your journey closer to home might be the smartest first step. The Asian Institute of Hospitality Management (AIHM) College — part of the Minor Hotels-founded AIHM — offers the Northern Consortium UK (NCUK) programmes such as International Foundation Year and International Year One. Both let you start your programme in Bangkok before progressing some of the world’s most prestigious universities.
Mya Shwe Thway Chal did just that. After earning an A* in all her NCUK subjects — the highest possible result — she’s now preparing to join the University of Manchester, one of the UK’s most respected universities. “There were ups and downs, but the institution and I overcame every problem and reached every achievement together,” she says.
Chal is just one of many AIHM College students who have completed their NCUK programme and are now progressing to leading universities abroad.

A sure path to more than 60 universities around the world
AIHM College is a licensed NCUK Study Centre. This partnership allows students to earn NCUK qualifications with guaranteed entry to more than 60 university partners worldwide. That gives students and families real peace of mind as they transition from high school to university life.
Here, students can choose between the International Foundation Year or International Year One, with specialisations in Business Management, Computer Science, and Accounting & Finance. Upon completion, they can progress to renowned universities such as the University of Bristol, RMIT Melbourne, the University of Manchester, or the University of Auckland.
“Our decision to introduce the NCUK International Foundation Year and International Year One programmes was driven by a shared vision with Minor Education to nurture globally minded, industry-ready graduates who can lead with confidence, competence, and cultural intelligence,” says Warren Stanworth, Academic Dean of AIHM.
This opportunity is particularly valuable for those from Thai and its surrounding countries who want a strategic start to a global education. They can remain close to family and familiar support systems while adjusting to international academic expectations. It’s a great way to build critical thinking, academic writing, and independent learning skills, all within a system that supports and knows you.
“Our methodology focuses on discussion-based learning, critical analysis, and continuous assessment rather than rote memorisation,” Stanworth says. “We believe in learning by doing, so many lessons are scenario-based. We also integrate digital platforms that simulate real-world situations.”

Learning, engaging, doing
AIHM College students learn through experience. Through its strong links to with Minor Hotels — one of the top 10 hotel groups in the world — you’ll get many opportunities to bridge theory and practice. Whether you pursue hospitality or business, you’ll go on site visits to luxury hotels and resorts, attend guest lectures from industry leaders, and take part in case studies inspired by real business challenges.
There’s even a chance to act as consultants to companies in the Minor network. As you prepare reports and presentations to tackle live issues, you’ll get to hone essential skills such as teamwork, leadership, and communication – qualities that’ll set you apart from the competition.
As you’ll be part of a diverse cohort, you’ll get to engage with global viewpoints and navigate complex issues. By the time you go abroad, you’ll be academically prepared and confident and culturally adaptable.
AIHM College’s faculty plays a significant role in this transformation. The teaching team comes from various backgrounds, mirroring many of the sector’s workplaces. Small class sizes and personalised support further ensure that you’ll get the guidance you need to do well.
Nyein Khant Hlaing, a student from Myanmar who completed the International Foundation Year, describes his experience: “The staff were really supportive. When you have a problem, tell the teachers or your colleagues instantly. They will help you through it.”
By the end of your NCUK year, you’ll have a globally recognised qualification and confidence to conquer your next steps. “Beyond knowledge, our graduates will have the self-assurance to speak up, ask questions, and actively engage in academic and professional communities worldwide,” Stanworth says. “This translates into young professionals who are proactive, culturally fluent, and ready to lead in the global hospitality industry.”
