“Looking at the different tools and organisation of an online class versus an on-campus class is something I enjoy helping faculty do,” she said. “Whether it’s helping the faculty members with their questions about setting up their online Canvas course or helping direct them to other appropriate resources on campus, the result of these efforts are online classes within the Bagley College of Engineering that facilitate a robust learning environment for all our students.”

Multiple concentrations, disciplines, and assessments
The MENG’s flexibility extends beyond format. It has two concentrations – general engineering and military engineering. MENG students also can mix and match engineering and non-engineering courses into a programme of study that best suits their goals. Unlike the lock-step curriculums of other master’s programmes, MSU’s programme provides courses from diverse fields like management, geosciences, sustainable bioproducts and agricultural economics. Students can pick classes from multiple colleges at the university. Some courses may require students to have backgrounds in a specific discipline.
“Flexibility is the key to the MENG,” said Dr. Kari Babski-Reeves, associate dean of the college. “Many of our students are working professionals with engineering or STEM-specific backgrounds who want to grow their knowledge base in other areas relevant to their career plans. Within our 30-hour programme, students can touch on multiple engineering disciplines and engineering-related studies.”

MSU’s MENG programme lets students choose how they wish to be assessed, whether through a thesis or non-thesis option. In the former, you can choose your thesis adviser from a wide selection as the programme includes multiple disciplines. For the non-thesis route, you’ll complete a capstone course during your final semester. This paper and presentation-based class is managed by the associate dean and distance education coordinator.
“The Master of Engineering degree is housed in the Dean of Engineering’s office and offers students access to classes in each of the engineering disciplines, as well as courses from other MSU colleges,” Swann said. Students with interests in a variety of engineering disciplines, other STEM fields or the military will develop skills they can apply wherever they go. No programme of study looks like another as they are moulded to the student’s needs.”
The MENG stands out for its flexibility and its affordability. In-state tuition rates apply to all online students, regardless of location. Students pay US$537.00 per credit hour, plus a US$200.00 per credit hour online fee, as well as a US$25.00 per credit hour instructional support fee.
