A Professor from the University of Louisville (UofL) has found himself plastered all over the Net after a photo of him babysitting a student’s children went viral.

Monica Willard thought her education was on the line when a babysitter cancelled at the last minute on the day of her finals, until Daniel Krebs, her University Professor, offered to keep an eye on four-year-old Marcus and five-year-old Mikayla so she could focus on her studies.

Willard told ABC News that she had tried to get the children to sit quietly on the couch before Krebs offered a helping hand. Willard is a single parent, meaning it’s often difficult to juggle childcare around her studies, and there are no military bases near the University so the local day care centres are not open at times she can fit around her schedule.

“The class didn’t know they were there until Marcus came banging on the door,” said Willard. “Dr. Krebs said, ‘Don’t worry. Go take your test. I’ve got them.’”

The 28-year-old ROTC student couldn’t believe her military history professor’s courteous act, which Krebs insists was a mere act of “common sense”.

“A person like Monica, she’s a non-commissioned officer going to school, she’s a Mom of two kids. I mean that’s the kind of thing that’s really impressive,” Krebs told ABC News. “Me handling her kids for 40, 45 minutes, that’s not impressive.”

Krebs says he hopes his students find him accessible, that they think they can talk to him and genuinely believe he cares not just about their education, but their general wellbeing, although he claims that looking after Marcus and Mikayla may have been more challenging than one of his actual classes.

“The little boy knew the names of the [Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles] and he’s yelling out these Italian names,” said the Professor. “I didn’t know who he was talking about. And the girl climbed on my shoulders and pulled my hair. But, apparently, I was so distracted that I didn’t know people were taking photos of me.”

Willard took a time out so she could check on the children, only to find them stuck into a computer game with her Professor out in the corridor. She ushered out friend and classmate, Victoria Henry, to capture the moment on her mobile phone.

Willard claims her kids are now the biggest fans of Dr. Krebs. “They didn’t want to leave,” she said. “They really just had a lot of fun. They want to come back to class with me.”
