Being a master of one discipline gives you an edge in your chosen career. Now imagine being a master in two or more disciplines. That’s what awaits you at the University of Luxembourg.
As we enter a future where the traditional division of labour between humans, machines and algorithms is rapidly evolving, it’s crucial that graduates build a diverse set of knowledge and skills — which is precisely what a master’s degree from the only public university in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg provides.
Specifically, an advanced degree from Uni.lu gives you a more holistic understanding of a topic. You’re more aware of the many questions, topics, themes or problems and understand a wide range of viewpoints. Faculty members often use a range of innovative pedagogical approaches, so you’ll learn through a variety of methods, from projects to placements and more — all of which are known for sharpening both hard and soft skills.
If a future-proof education is what you aim to achieve, consider joining one of the following highly international, research-informed, and multilingual master’s degrees:
Master in Space Technologies and Business
Celebrating its fifth anniversary, the Master in Space Technologies and Business is a unique programme developed in collaboration with the Luxembourg Space Agency (LSA). Its comprehensive curriculum covers advanced space technologies, satellite systems, and commercial opportunities within the space sector, preparing you to contribute to the emerging global space industry by creating and shaping sustainable space enterprises.
A lot of your learning will be project-based and involve industry partners. “The trainers were incredibly experienced and knowledgeable in their field of expertise,” says graduate Lari Cujko. “I also had the chance to learn from experienced members of the Luxembourg Space Agency and from space firms and start-ups who opened their doors to us and presented their R&D departments, both in theory and practically in their labs.”
Master in Entrepreneurship and Innovation
The Master in Entrepreneurship and Innovation is a programme accredited by FIBAA, the Foundation for International Business Administration Accreditation, and is tailored to those with a vision to create and lead impactful enterprises.
This master’s degree serves as a robust foundation in business principles, combined with practical experience in startup development and innovation management. And thanks to the University’s partnership with Chamber of Commerce, students can interact with industry experts, be part of local incubator start-ups, and get hands-on experience in launching and managing new business ventures. Some of the business ideas from this programme go on to find further support on campus with the help of the University of Luxembourg Incubator and Entrepreneurship Programme and initiatives like Ideation Camp.
Master in Mediation
Conflicts are sometimes inevitable, resulting from differing opinions, misunderstandings, or competing priorities. This makes effective communication and conflict resolution more important than ever.
The four-year Master in Mediation programme is designed for those seeking to become qualified mediators in a specialised organisation and anyone who manages people working in situations requiring conflict resolution skills and techniques. As a graduate, you’ll have mediation and conflict resolution skills and the ability to set up, supervise and manage social intervention projects — ready for a career in a management position in a mediation or social intervention agency.
Master in Border Studies
The Master in Border Studies addresses the complex economic, political, social and cultural issues of borders and border regions in Europe and beyond. You’ll take multilingual classes taught in three countries at four different universities: University of Luxembourg, University of Lorraine, Saarland University, and RPTU Kaiserslautern-Landau (formerly: Technische Universität Kaiserslautern). Such settings pair well with the many and varied topics covered, from border problems and border cultures to border literatures and constructions of “otherness”.
Between semesters two and three, you’ll complete a mandatory internship in a professional setting as well. This experience, coupled with your interdisciplinary knowledge, will set you up for careers in cultural agencies or institutions, media relations, public administrations, cross-border cultural management and regional marketing.
Master in Learning and Communication in Multilingual and Multicultural Contexts
Proficiency in several languages and cultures is indispensable in today’s globalised world. This Master in Learning and Communication in Multilingual and Multicultural Contexts programme is designed to equip students with these vital competencies.
Language is a big part of this master. You’ll improve your scientific writing and presentation skills in all three languages of the programme — English, French and German — and work in, on, and with a variety of multilingual situations.
Teaching takes place in various forms, including courses, workshops, seminars and personalised mentoring. Another highlight of the programme is the half-day symposium students organise at the end of the fourth semester. The event not only allows students to present their research but also facilitates engagement with distinguished plenary speakers, providing a platform for academic dialogue and professional growth.
