Choosing a suitable university to pursue your degree can be daunting. There are many factors to weigh in — where you’d like to be based at, the course you’d like to pursue, if you’d prefer to study in a city campus, or a relatively calmer environment.
The University of Luxembourg offers a perfect blend. Programmes here cover a broad range of disciplines, encompassing the sciences, economics, law, finance and the humanities. This includes 46 master’s degrees, 17 bachelor’s degrees, vocational training and doctoral education.
At the University of Luxembourg, you’re guaranteed an exceptional education and experience. It’s one of the top 100 universities in the world for Computer Science; in the top 200 for Life Sciences, Engineering and Technology, and Physical Sciences; and is ranked number 92 out of 257 universities for Law worldwide.
For those looking to study outside the STEM (that’s Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) fields, the university is strong in Psychology, Social Sciences and Business and Economics, too — and that’s only a glimpse of the many courses offered by the university for both bachelor’s and master’s study.
This promises a rich and diverse student experience, as you’ll live, learn and connect with a broad range of students who are all pursuing different disciplines.
Three sites, one exciting campus
With its sleek, modern design and impressive range of facilities, the University of Luxembourg — split into three sites: Belval Campus, Kirchberg Campus and Limpertsberg Campus — is a reflection of its dedication to providing the best possible learning environment for its students. You can explore what the campus has to offer through a virtual online tour, which highlights the three faculties and three interdisciplinary centres.
One location that appeals to students is the Luxembourg Learning Centre, which houses the university’s library. “It’s very beautiful and calm,” says Sheena, a US-born master’s student based at the Belval Campus, the university’s main site. “There are plenty of services that the students can use, and plenty of places to study or just relax and read. We’re definitely spoiled here with this.”
Belval Campus is a former steel industry site in the South of Luxembourg. It is located about 20 kilometres from Luxembourg City, which offers plenty of options for entertainment, dining, and exciting recreational activities, all of which contribute to a fulfilling student experience.
Belval is also home to many research institutions and start-up companies, guaranteeing an environment designed to constantly stimulate growth and learning. And if you’re looking to travel between study breaks, Belval is just 500 metres from the French border — ideal for a quick getaway!
That’s not to distract from what the campus has to offer. Outside of a rich learning environment, students at the University of Luxembourg also have a variety of activities to enjoy. Get into shape with the many sports offered on campus, guided by trainers free of charge. Explore your creative side with free painting workshops and organised guided tours and exhibitions. There are various student-led societies to join too, with room to start your own association should you wish!
Experience a diverse and multilingual study experience
With all of the above, it’s no wonder that the university has attracted 6,783 students from 130 different countries. In the World University Rankings 2022 published by Times Higher Education, it scored 99.5 in the International Outlook category, consolidating its place among world leaders.
The university certainly encourages a global outlook with its focus on teaching programmes in multiple languages. “The University of Luxembourg is extremely international and multilingual,” shares Sheena. “This has not only allowed me to pick up a new language — French — but also meet people from all over the world.”
Choose from a wide range of programmes taught in the university’s four teaching languages – French, German, English and Luxembourgish. With an impressive 48 bilingual and 14 trilingual degrees on top of the university’s 23 English-only courses, you’ll always be challenged to learn and absorb as much as you can.
That’s not to mention the added advantage you’ll be given as a University of Luxembourg graduate. With a few languages in your repertoire, you’ll open yourself up to thousands of exciting opportunities once you enter the working sphere without having to navigate through language barriers. On top of this, bachelor’s students also have the opportunity to spend a semester studying abroad, allowing for a truly international experience.
