At LU College of Business, an exciting and dynamic MBA awaits. These facts prove it:

World-class education

The College of Business is among the less than 5% of business schools worldwide with accreditation by AACSB. Programmes offered here include the MBA, Master of Science in Management Information Systems (MS-MIS) and Master of Science in Professional Accounting (MSPA). e.  The College of Business offers dual degrees which can be completed in significantly less time.

Established in 2015, the MBA is ranked among the best by the Princeton Review in 2023. It covers core managerial finance and accounting knowledge, as well as marketing strategic management, economics, and international management courses.

An MBA for diverse aspirations and needs

MBA students can customise their academic journey to fit their career aspirations — thanks to the 12 concentrations offered at LU. These are Business Analytics, Enterprise Resource Planning, Financial Management, Healthcare Administration, Leadership, Management Information Systems, Accounting, Thematic, Management, Marketing, Construction Project Management, and Port Management.

It is a program designed to allow students to gain the skills and knowledge to meet their needs, interests, and career plans — all in as little as one year. Students can complete the program in the evening or online to accommodate their professional and personal commitments as well.

Just as diverse and flexible are STEM-certified MS-MIS and MSPA. “In my career in the pharmaceutical industry, I always needed to leverage my knowledge of business operations. Therefore, I choose the MBA and Lamar University because this is one of the rare universities offering Healthcare Administration as a major,” shares Sadia Shorna, a graduate student from Bangladesh pursuing a dual degree (an MBA and an MS-MIS).

Affordability and low tuition fees

Higher education can be expensive, but at LU, it does not have to be. The university prides itself on offering affordable tuition to all students. International students with qualifying GPAs will be subject to the same tuition fee rate as Texas residents.

“We are proud to be ranked among the most affordable colleges in Texas. More than that, we are proud to offer affordable degrees for an outstanding education that provides career-ready graduates to our Southeast Texas region and all of Texas,” shares Dr Katrina Brent, associate vice president of Enrollment Management and Marketing.

Most international graduate students receive an out-of-state tuition waiver plus a US$1,000 annual competitive graduate scholarship. “We give scholarships and stipends to top-performing students who can then participate in grant-funded research projects and other special projects in areas such as analysis, surveying, data mining and more,” says Gevorg Sargsyan, Assistant Professor of Finance.

A supportive and welcoming environment

LU works with each student to help them develop a plan to unlock their full potential and achieve their goals. “The reason I choose LU is because of its affordability, the diversity in culture of the student body, and excellence in the faculty and academic atmosphere,” shares Victoria Kujore from Nigeria, an MBA in Business Analytics and MS-MIS student.

Need to speak to someone? Students can reach out to the staff in the Office of Graduate Studies or book one-to-one appointments with a graduate advisor. In these spaces and beyond, the LU vibe is as vibrant as it is supportive.

Campus life integrates urban living with the safe, secure feeling of a small town, and there is plenty to do when there are no classes. When students are not getting inspired by professors who are experts in their fields of study, they can participate in any of the more than 100 student organisations here. The university also celebrates many multicultural celebrations through out the academic school year with special celebrations hosted by student groups, the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, the Office of International Education and Services, and other departments across campus.

Experiential learning

Seeing theories applied to real-life situations is crucial. The college knows this well, hence why it ensures numerous opportunities for experiential learning.

To bring classes like Healthcare Economics, Strategy, Entrepreneurship, and  Healthcare Analytics to life, Healthcare Administration students may apply for internships at healthcare systems and institutions. This is thanks to the college’s working relationship with the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE).

Management students receive world-class organisational leadership training delivered by passionate instructors. The focus is on sharpening soft skills — and these sessions boost their emotional and social intelligence to be at par with their knowledge of finance and marketing, and interpersonal relations.

The Business Analytics programme teaches tools needed to perform data analytics such as Tableau, SAS, Oracle-SQL, Python, Power BI, Advanced MS Excel, SAP-ERP, and R:t. This suite of skills is in high demand across all industries, with the average annual salary for data analysis in the US presently at US$95,000 per year.

Sargsyan, Assistant Professor of Finance, about the special projects and other opportunities: “The beauty of the entire master’s programme at the LU College of Business is that it provides endless opportunities for extracurricular activities for our graduate students. From study abroad to graduate research, teaching assistantships and engagement with professional organisations, our students learn all the skills needed to become experts in their chosen fields.”
