Dermal health and beauty is rapidly expanding and evolving as an industry. Treatments that were once niche and only popular within a specific audience are now common across all demographics.
This can be seen from the normalisation of men seeking beauty treatments, the growing understanding that feeling confident in your appearance has many additional benefits for your mental health, and the advancements in technology and techniques reducing costs and improving results.
This is why the Global Aesthetic Medicine Market is expected to reach a value of US$107 billion by 2028. The Hairdressing and Beauty industry is forecast grow by 1.6% up to 2028, and there are even more impressive growth rates of 2.2% for Plastic Surgery and 3.2% for Health and Wellness Spas predicted from 2024 to 2029.
Do you picture yourself at the forefront of the movement making a tangible difference in people’s lives every single day? From providing bespoke skin health treatments and advice to working in medical aesthetics, the opportunities are as diverse as they are exciting. And with the growth potential in these industries being so strong, now is the ideal time to gain advanced expertise in beauty, wellness and empowerment.
“This industry is advancing all the time, and its qualifications are becoming much more credible these days,” says Candice Heskey, Executive Director and Head of School at The Australasian College of Health and Wellness.
Qualifications that realise your aspirations
Recognising the need for qualified professionals, ACHW runs programs that will dramatically increase your employment options in this growing field.
To cater to varying interests, the college offers a total of eight flexible qualifications. Those new to the world of beauty and dermal therapy can pursue one of six Undergraduate Certificates — all of which serve as a foundation for the world of Applied Health Science.
Within just 26 weeks, students will be able to gain certifications in:
- Dermal Science and Nutrition
- Cosmetic Advisory
- Health Care Communications
- Laser and Dermal Therapy Essentials
- Facial Care Fundamentals
- Dermal Interventions
The last three blend bachelor’s-level scientific study with practical, hands-on experience tailored for immediate application in professional settings. Dermal Interventions is the college’s most popular program. It explores skin biology and how specific techniques like laser technology and micro-needling can be used to meet advanced dermal therapy goals.
These Undergraduate Certificates are open to all, thanks to low entry requirements, offering students an ideal stepping stone towards more advanced qualifications like ACHW’s two-year Associate Degree in Applied Health Science (Dermal Therapy) and the three-year Bachelor of Applied Health Science (Clinical Aesthetics).
These are the highest qualifications available in Australia and the best at identifying experts. Another aspect they have in common is breadth — covering every angle of various topics to ensure graduates step into any workforce ready to add value. Plus, all ACHW students gain a competitive edge with complimentary access to short courses from the Australian Institute of Management, through which they can augment their studies with essential business and professional skills.
“A lot of other degrees that are out there are strongly dermal and quite focused on that,” says a graduate. “I really loved the health aspect of things in all of the subjects and the variety of the subjects that were on offer.”
Classes are delivered by practitioners with postgraduate degrees or higher and decades of experience in the field. Professor Terry Everitt, the only recognised Professor of Aesthetic Sciences and ACHW’s Head of Academic Development, leads classes of his own while keeping curricula as relevant as can be. He plays a key role in keeping each qualification’s online delivery up to par.
You can live, work and achieve more with ACHW
The college extends its reach far and wide, offering students across the country the opportunity to prepare for career success from virtually anywhere. Its blended learning model, whereby students learn theory on a user-friendly online learning platform before attending dedicated clinic blocks — in Sydney, Melbourne and Gold Coast — provides hands-on expertise with real clients.
This unique delivery mode lets you balance your ACHW program with your life and career commitments. “I do love the option to have your theory online because you’re able to still be in industry and gain the experience,” shares a recent graduate. “And the practical is very thorough and it’s a good way to connect with everyone else that you’ve studied with.”
Everyone deserving and dedicated can access ACHW programs
There are currently six scholarship opportunities designed to foster excellence and inclusivity.
