Take your dance career to the next level at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance

Sean Murray completed his MA in Dance Performance at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London in 2017, and since then has built a successful performance career that has taken him across the globe. He has performed with music artist Jamie xx at international festivals and concert venues including Coachella, Primavera Sounds, All Points East, The Hollywood Bowl, Way Out West, and Rock-en-Seine. He’s worked on dance projects with fellow alumni in Germany, Italy, Portugal and Switzerland, and taken his own cabaret work to major festivals such as Glastonbury, Wilderness and Camp Bestival in the UK. He’s performed at the Hollywood Bowl with the LA Philharmonic, appears in an upcoming Ridley Scott movie and is currently in the contracting stage for joining a major UK dance company on a national tour.

He says: “The MA Dance Performance at Trinity Laban gave me connections into the industry, and a springboard to take my dance skills into a wide range of international performance opportunities.”

Keith Corprew wanted to explore how racial identity and masculinity can have a profound effect on Black men’s sense of belonging. He had previously studied philosophy and French studies and would later complete a Master’s in Theological Studies with a certificate in Black Church Studies. That was in Atlanta. Today, he’s in the UK — on a mission to understand what it means to be a Black man here.

A current MFA in Creative Practice: Transdisciplinary Fulbright-Trinity Laban Postgraduate Scholar at Trinity Laban , Corprew is placing his interdisciplinary practice in transformative dialogue with leading dance and movement practitioners. “I am elated to study at Trinity Laban, especially with the support the institution provides to develop its students as artists, researchers, and community practitioners,” he says.

That students like Murray and Corprew can explore such strong passions across a wide spectrum is thanks to Trinity Laban’s well-designed offerings. Corprew’s MFA, for example, flexes to accommodate various interests, whilst the Transdisciplinary pathway offers a curated and supported space to articulate what it means to be an artist.

All Trinity Laban programmes equip students with technical and expressive skills that enhance talent and creativity, and the conservatoire is recognised as a world-leading specialist provider with a distinctive voice and valued position in the international conservatoire sector and wider arts world.

Whether it’s an MA or MFA Dance Performance, an MA or MFA Creative Practice: Dance Professional or even an MA or MFA Choreography, these programmes are excellent for those wanting to grow their careers or build on their undergraduate training.

Those aspiring to become elite performers will find the MA or MFA Dance Performance programme exceptional. You’ll learn advanced techniques and creative skills under the guidance of specially commissioned national and international artists. You’ll become a performer in the conservatoire’s new company, TLDC: Trinity Laban’s Dance Collective where you’ll research, create and perform a broad programme of contemporary dance works as well as explore cultural and political narratives.

It’s a programme that sets many on trajectories of success. Some like Murray have portfolio performance careers, others have founded their own companies, while some alumni go into internationally renowned dance companies such as Company Wayne McGregor, Akram Khan Company, DV8 Physical Theatre, Protein Dance, and Punchdrunk.

Where intellectual and creative enquiry soar

Trinity Laban’s postgraduate programmes develop creative and professional skills to an advanced level. The MA or MFA Dance Leadership and Community Practice enhances your development as a dance leader and facilitator with practical knowledge, skills and an understanding of dance as a socially relevant, creative, applied, and inclusive practice. Elena Alava Hilgert graduated from the MA in 2022 and says:

“We learned about the full-picture of a community dance artist and were introduced to a range of inspiring artists.  The tutors showed us what it means to be a forward-thinking, open-minded practitioner embracing change in our industry, and we  walked away with essential skills to use in ‘the real world’.”

The MSc Dance Science examines the disciplines of physiology, biomechanics and psychology as applied to dance, and the intersection of these disciplines with embodied and somatic practices.  Our specialist facilities include a versatile testing laboratory with dedicated support staff, a specialist dance library and 12 dance studios, where you’ll apply your research to real-life case studies.
