According to the US Education Department’s Office of Civil Rights, Princeton University in New Jersey failed to take action to improve the reportedly sexually hostile environment experienced by one of its students. The University is said to have handled the student’s complaints of sexual violence improperly and, consequently, violated Title IX of the law.

The Education Department has confirmed that it has reached an agreement with the University to resolve a civil rights investigation which began following complaints from multiple individuals. As part of this agreement, the University has agreed to re-assess its approach to historical cases throughout the last 3 years.

The institution also says that it will make further changes to its operation, such as providing tuition on the issue of sexual violence for students and staff, and communicating more effectively with local law enforcement.
