Looking for scholarships in the UK? That’s a good move, considering the many perks that come with a UK degree. You could see the place that birthed icons such as Harry Potter and Henry VIII. You could study in many highly-ranked universities dotted in all corners of the country.
From 2021, getting here and staying here will be easy. You will be able to stay in the country for up to three years after graduating under a new visa policy. A new points-based visa system lets students outside the UK apply for visas six months before their course starts and graduates with in-demand skills qualify for a visa easier.
Little surprise then that more are heading to the UK to study. Last year, the number of international students in the UK surpassed half a million, a year-over-year increase of 12.15%.
As the country reopens, with one of the fastest vaccination rates in the world, there are even more reasons to head here. If technology is your forte, here are the top scholarships in the UK to check out:
University of Birmingham: Undergraduate International Scholarships (Computer Science)
The Achievement Scholarship awards 1,500 pounds to those with a firm choice for Computer Science and meets the grades requirement of AAA or equivalent. The International Scholarship awards an additional 1,500 points to those with A*AA/AAAA. There is no deadline for the application for this scholarship as it is open all year to EU and non-EU undergraduate students.
University College London: Engineering Dean’s Prize
The Dean’s Prize covers the stipend — by waiving international fee — for recipients of competitive scholarships. It is open only to those wishing to pursue research degrees in the Faculty of Engineering Sciences or the Faculty of Mathematical & Physical Sciences.
Gates Cambridge Scholarship
Every year this programme offers a full-cost scholarship to outstanding applicants from countries outside the UK to pursue a full-time postgraduate degree in any subject at the University of Cambridge. Recipients are chosen based on outstanding intellectual ability; reasons for choice of course; a commitment to improving the lives of others; and leadership potential. Applications open in September 2021.
Computer Science scholarships
If you have the equivalent of a UK First Class undergraduate degree in a technical subject, you’ll be automatically considered for a scholarship by the Royal Holloway University of London. This would give you a 2,000 pounds fee discount. Eligible and fee-paying Indian nationals will get a 4,000 pounds tuition fee discount.
