With a 200-acre campus that’s home to a working horse farm — with a herd of more than 35 horses and 70 acres of pasture land included — Midway University boasts a campus like no other. It is located in Woodford County, Kentucky and conveniently situated with three major airports nearby (Lexington, Louisville, and Cincinnati). There are eight official student organisations and three honour societies as well, organising over 100 annual co-curricular activities.
MidwayU is where students achieve individual growth, responsible citizenship, and meaningful careers through personalised educational experiences. The university offers over 20 career-focused majors, pre-professional programmes, and three graduate programmes available. Ranking 83rd in the US News & World Report – 2022-23 Top Regional University South, the school has numerous programmes worth highlighting.
Chief among them is its strong nursing programme. At the associate and bachelor’s degree levels, students benefit from a strong curriculum, invested professors, as well as concentrated, supervised laboratory and clinical experiences. The nursing programmes are accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing, Inc, and graduates are highly sought after by employers.
Another exemplary undergraduate programme is Computer Science, which prepares students to grow, learn, and adapt to new opportunities in their careers. It gives students the tools to compete in the rapidly evolving technology section. The Biology programme, requiring 120 credit hours, is perfect for students who want to go on to work or study further in pharmacy, medicine, veterinary medicine, and physical and occupational therapy.
If you’re looking to attend graduate school in one of the allied health professions, the Health Science undergraduate degree will give you a strong foundation and a chance to take part in industry internships. Considered one of MidwayU’s fastest-growing majors, the Sport Management programme gives students the know-how necessary to manage sports programmes in any setting, be it business, community, public, or private. The curriculum brings together business and management principles, focused on sports, events and marketing.
The Business Administration degree programme has earned its fair share of accolades: ranking third in the Most Affordable Master’s Degree – MBA by BestMastersDegrees.com. Students may even customise their degree with a number of minors, including finance, entrepreneurship, human resource management, or leadership.
For BS Business/Marketing graduate Victor Bazzo, the school was the perfect choice not only because of its rigorous programmes, but for its affordability. “MidwayU offered me a good scholarship for volleyball,” he says. “I also received a good academic scholarship based on my SAT and TOEFL scores. These were added together and made it very affordable for me.” The university goes out of its way to ensure the college experience is achievable, and offers scholarship programmes such as the Ruth Slack Roach Leadership Scholarship Programme, the high academic achievement award, and the Pinkerton Scholarship. Many other grants and loans are available too, no matter which programme you choose.
This makes MidwayU’s MBA programme one of the most affordable in the region. “When I decided to get an MBA in the US I decided on various other universities but MidwayU really caught my eye because it was really the best in the Southern part of the US for business and management,” says Anuprita Mulik, an MBA graduate. She notes how quick the process was to get her visa which was ready in a week.
This two-year degree programme offers six concentrations: equine management, healthcare administration, human resource management, management information systems, sport management, and tourism and event management. As an international student, Mulik found the teachers and even Mona Chorera, Director of International Admissions, to be supportive throughout her time here. “The professors here are very helpful and anytime you message them, anytime you email them, they are very quick in their responses to any queries you come up with, and they are ready to help,” she says.
With such support, MidwayU students and graduates go on to achieve incredible things. For instance, four students and their professor were the winners of the Best Sports & Experiential Marketing Presentation Award at the Midwest Business Administration Association (MBAA) International Society of Marketing Conference held in Chicago. This was for their peer-reviewed work: “Sports Infographics and Knowledge Translation: Mobilising Economic Impact Data to Build Student Skills, Share Research Impacts and Enable Sport Development.”
Entrepreneurial students entered the KY Pitch Competition, open to all Kentucky post-secondary colleges and universities, and walked away champions. Against 16 teams from seven schools, two MidwayU student teams took home honours and prizes – another testament to how the university’s full support, from financial to academic, realises big dreams.
