Michelle Obama and MC Flotus think you should “Go to College…Fill your head with knowledge”

The world has seen a different side to the First Lady this week, as she strode out of the White House with reams of swag and a pair of oversized sunglasses, with an important rap-message that we should all “Go to College”.

Ms Obama collaborated with Saturday Night Live comedian, Jay Pharoah, who has earned himself a reputation for his impression of none other than her husband, Barack Obama.

The First Lady pulls off a lovably awkward performance (after all, not many of us can say we’ve seen such elegance in such a rad rap performance) but she is genuinely working it out, convincing us all to add ‘Gangster Rap Superstar’ to her endless list of talents.

Singing about her home town, Chicago, Obama says: “Southside Chicago, we all know/ we had to do overtime every night to make it tomorrow/ and everyone could really make their dream true/ hey kids listening in Michigan/ that could be you.”

Throughout her time in the White House, Ms Obama has endorsed a sequence of initiatives to promote healthy eating, education for girls and help for military families.

“I want to honour and empower young people who are working hard in School and pursuing their dreams, and I want to do it in a fresh and fun way,” she said in a recent statement.

The video is part of the First Lady’s new “Better Make Room” campaign to provide teens with the resources they need to pursue higher education. It forms part of a broader initiative to continue their education after high school.

“Go to College” smashed its way into the Billboard top 140 singles chart, currently holding the number 1 spot, even ahead of Adele’s new single, “Hello”. The video was uploaded to YouTube yesterday and has nearly reached 1,010,000 views.

Fans took to social media to praise Ms Obama’s performance, using the trending hashtag #FlotusBars, with some even suggesting their own lyrics for the First Lady.

Sam Reich, from College Humor, a comedy website that helped create the video, said: “I think the country will join me in saying, ‘Mrs Obama, we think you should cut an album.”
