Jerudong International School, Brunei

Located in the small, beautiful multicultural country of Brunei, Jerudong International School (JIS) is one of Southeast Asia’s leading boarding schools. The 300 acre campus is set against unspoilt coastline and tropical woodland and the contemporary architecture and impressive school grounds are designed to promote and enhance education. JIS offers a unique experience that combines a broad, liberal British and International curriculum with traditional values, catering for more than 1,700 students from 54 countries.

Facilities

Students at JIS have access to an array of exceptional facilities including a modern Arts Centre, eLearning Centre, canteens, science laboratories, music facilities, libraries, extensive outdoor playground facilities, eco gardens and a range of sports facilities including a swimming pool, a gymnasium, basketball and tennis courts. All the buildings are ICT networked and the campus is only a short drive from the capital city.

Academics

JIS offers the British International curriculum and prepares students for the International Baccalaureate, GCSEs, International GCSEs and A-Levels. Many JIS students have gone on to top universities such as Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard, the London School of Economics, Australian National University, and the National University of Singapore.

To continue to guarantee these high standards Jerudong International School employs only the highest calibre of teaching staff. The school’s 200 teachers come primarily from the UK but also from France, Australia, New Zealand and Brunei.

Boarding

Jerudong International School offers weekly and full boarding facilities for students from Years 7 to 13. The facilities include two male boarding houses and two female boarding houses that are designed to provide a modern and caring environment where students can live and learn. The accommodation is within easy walking distance of the school and includes lounges, kitchens, music and computer rooms. The accommodation also provides for live-in tutors / Matrons ensuring there is plenty of staff supervision. Students participate in supervised group homework sessions. During their recreation time, boarders have access to the school’s sports facilities and many boarding house events are organised throughout the year. Buses also take weekly boarders to and from nearby towns on weekends.

Junior School (ages 2-11)

JIS education begins with Early Years Students (Nursery, Kindergarten and Reception) who follow the UK Early Years Foundation Programme. From Years 1-6 students use the primary English National Curriculum to develop their English and gain a passion for reading. This curriculum has been adapted to the Southeast Asian context and is their first introduction to class-based learning with a teacher.

Middle Years (ages 11-13)

While the Middle Years explore subjects based on the British National Curriculum there are plenty of opportunities for a wider range of engaging opportunities. Parents may also enter their students in academic competitions at the end of the Middle Years.

Upper Years (ages 13-15)

The Upper Years are when students prepare for GCSEs, A-levels or the International Baccalaureate. While class time is designed for students to hone their academic skills they are also encouraged to develop outside of the classroom through involvement in an extensive co-curricular programme.

Years 12 & 13 (ages 16-18)

During their final two years, students focus on study for pre-university programmes using A-levels or the International Baccalaureate programme that are both respected and recognised by universities around the world.
