How to apply for a Doctors without Borders student chapter

Are you tired of studying health and medicine from a lecture hall? Do you want to put your hard-earned academic knowledge into action?

If so, an independent, global movement providing medical aid named Doctors without Borders is looking for help where it’s needed most.

Founded in May 1968, this initiative started with a group of young doctors who decided to help victims of wars and major disasters.

According to their website, “This new brand of humanitarianism would reinvent the concept of emergency aid. They were to become Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), known internationally in English as Doctors Without Borders.”

With medical projects in over 70 countries worldwide, the organisation has been providing lifesaving medical humanitarian care for communities that require attention and assistance and has rightfully gained global recognition for its hard work and dedication.

Between Aug. and Dec. 2018, our teams in Mocha treated 150+ people wounded by mines, improvised explosive devices and unexploded ordnance. 1/3 of these patients were children.

The Doctors without Borders Student Chapter

The Student Chapter programme at Doctors without Borders enables university campus communities to spread the message about MSF and the incredible work they do.

From setting up exhibits around campus to promoting the organisation at university job fairs, there’s always an innovative way to communicate the company’s efforts.

Some universities around the world have already set up a student chapter, so if you’re a current student, double check that your university hasn’t already established one.

Plus, there’s no need to worry over event resources as there are plenty of downloadable materials available online.

Fundraise with the MSF Movement 

Alongside setting up a student chapter, the medical humanitarian organisation also encourages the public to fundraise for them.

From participating in your favourite athletic events, hosting your own silent auctions, concerts, bake sales or hosting an official charity video gaming stream to support MSF, there’s never a shortage of ideas to initiate.

Through their question page, you can review the rules and regulations that need to be adhered to before starting a fundraising project.

For instance, any press releases, pitch letters, printed or electronic advertisements must be submitted to the Doctors Without Borders staff for review and approval before they are made public.

And for any cash donation you receive, the organisation asks you to convert the cash to a cashier’s check or a money order and mail it with a completed donation form.
