HKBU School of Business: Where business aspirants evolve into experts

At Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) School of Business, every business aspirant achieves not just mastery, but optimum employability as well. Success stories prove it — all are outstanding yet each is unique.

A Law graduate from Oxford University, Wesley Nelson chose to depart the UK having enjoyed everything London had to offer. Straight out of university, he began his career spending 70 hours a week or more adding value to an up-and-coming start up. Within three years, he wanted a new challenge.

– Director of Operations and Growth, Hepper (Pangolia group)
– MSc in Business Management (MScBM) (2020-21)

Wesley’s first visit to Hong Kong was unforgettable. He remembered it as a city packed with “everything to love about London, but with better food, different people, and nicer potential photographs.” Pair Hong Kong’s wonders with HKBU School of Business’s robust MSc in Business Management (MScBM) programme — an ideal pick for budding leaders — and Wesley was sold.

The experience was everything he thought it would be and the qualification boosted his career in ways he never thought possible. “The real value of a one-year master’s programme in somewhere like Hong Kong is to press pause on everything, take a step back, and determine your true calling,” Wesley says.

That’s exactly what he did. Today, he remains in Hong Kong, working remotely for Singapore-based organisation hepper.com as its Director of Operations and Growth. Such achievements are typical of graduates from the only business school in Hong Kong (and amongst the 1% business schools in the world) with triple accreditation.

Dona Prasadi Samaranayake (from Sri Lanka)
– Blockchain Security Business Analyst, Crypto.com
– MSc in Finance (FinTech and Financial Analytics) (MScFTFA) (2019-20)

Dona Prasadi Samaranayake from Sri Lanka completed her undergraduate studies in the UK and a master’s degree in Brunei before seeking a more internationally recognised, specialised degree. HKBU School of Business was an obvious choice. The Diversity Contribution Scholarship awarded to her was a bonus. Without financial worries in mind, she pursued the MSc in Finance (Fintech and Financial Analysis) programme (MScFTFA) to sharpen her skill set for professional success. Upon graduating, that is exactly what she achieved. Today, Prasadi remains in Hong Kong as a Blockchain Security Business Analyst for Crypto.com.

Yahya Kabboul from Morocco studied in France for three years before arriving in Hong Kong to take on the HKBU School of Business’s MSc in Finance (FinTech and Financial Analytics) programme. Today he is working in Denmark for ECCO Shoes, specialising in finance and business controlling.

Michael Chmielinski from Poland, Jens Joachim Marga from Germany and Mathias Awuni from Ghana have opted to achieve doctoral success after completing their Master’s studies.

Of course, diverse pathways abound. Apart from offering various master’s programmes, including Master of Accountancy (MAcc), Master of Human Resource Management (MHRM), MSc in Applied Accounting & Finance (MScAAF), MSc in Applied Economics (MScAEcon), MSc in Business Management (MScBM), MSc in Corporate Governance and Compliance (MScCGC), MSc in Data Analytics and Business Economics (MScDABE), MSc in Entrepreneurship and Global Marketing (MScEGM), MSc in Finance (FinTech and Financial Analytics) (MScFTFA) and MSc in Marketing for the Creative Economy (MScMCE); the HKBU School of Business works with more than 250 university-level or school-level overseas partner universities to offer a suite of additional and optional overseas summer or winter exchange programmes and double degree options.

For example, through HKBU School of Business’s partnership with the Burgundy School of Business, students could opt to earn two additional master’s degrees in France on a free tuition basis — in just one year upon graduating from a HKBU master’s programme.
