Fulda University of Applied Sciences: Practical learning, global careers

If you’re planning to study abroad, there’s more to think about than just rankings. The university’s reputation and programme quality are important, but employability matters too. Will the programme prepare you for real jobs? Do graduates find work quickly? Whether you want to study nutrition, health, social studies, technology, business, or law, these are key questions.

A degree is a big investment, so it’s crucial to choose a university that sets you up for success after graduation. Fulda University of Applied Sciences does exactly that, helping students build real-world skills and strong career prospects. With ties to businesses and industries, Fulda ensures that you’re academically prepared just as much as you’re job-ready. A degree here is a sure path to securing your dream jobs.

From university to your chosen career, the Fulda University way

Located in the heart of Germany (and in Hesse’s most picturesque baroque town, no less), Fulda University is known for its applied approach to education. Here, you learn by doing, no matter which programme you opt for. This hands-on focus gives you a competitive edge when applying for jobs later. It did for Raouf Tadros, who completed a BSc in International Business and Management at Fulda.

Born and raised in Cairo, Egypt, Tadros moved to Germany in 2020. For him, the decision to come here was clear: an affordable city, an English-taught programme, and opportunities as international as the community on campus.

Out of approximately 9,000 students, over 2,200 are internationals by now, representing over 100 countries. This creates a diverse and dynamic environment, further enriched by the university’s global partnerships, which let you spend semesters or complete internships abroad.

“The programme included a broad perspective on many business topics, which allowed me to discover what I enjoy doing,” Tadros says. “Another aspect integrated in the study programme was a semester abroad, as well as many opportunities to complete modules abroad. I took advantage of this and spent time in Spain and France.”

In the final semesters, the focus is on practical work, where you apply what you’ve learned in real-world contexts. This approach helped Tadros develop both job-relevant skills and personal competencies that set him apart when applying for jobs. The result? He secured a role with storied sports car maker Porsche.

    Supporting students’ career success

The university’s Career Service supports international students and graduates in landing internships and job opportunities. From professional orientation and career planning to application strategies and interview preparation, the service covers all the essentials to make job hunting smoother and less overwhelming. It’s designed to be a one-stop place for guidance, with clear steps for those unsure of where to begin or how to move forward.

Want to improve job applications, polish CVs, review cover letters, and help practise for interviews? These resources are yours to access whenever you’re ready. If you’re considering starting your own business, a start-up service is part of the offering too. To make things even more accessible, placement officers assist in finding internships both in Germany and across Europe.

The Career Buddy programme is a standout initiative. Fidan Quliyeva from Baku, Azerbaijan, who is studying Social Sciences for Intercultural Relations, is one such buddy. “I support international students with their academic progress and job search efforts, while also helping them navigate their new environment and feel genuinely supported throughout their journey,” she says.

Apart from one-on-one guidance, you’ll benefit from events that connect you with employers. Company visits and job fairs not only give you a glimpse into real workplaces but also allow you to ask questions and build professional networks. It’s a great way to make the job search feel less abstract and more approachable.

Tadros, who attended a few job fairs and a company visit, found the experience useful even if it didn’t immediately lead to a job. “It made me aware of certain companies in the region,” he says. “That awareness can often be the first step to building a successful application later.”

There’s nothing to lose and a lot to gain, which is why Quliyeva often encourages her peers to take advantage of every opportunity available. “For international students looking to improve their career prospects, I usually recommend making good use of the university’s career services like workshops and the Career Buddy programme,” she says.

She further stresses the value of joining language courses and making use of resources. “Getting support with CV writing and interview preparation — whether from Career Buddies or other available resources — can make a big difference in feeling more confident.”
