ESCP Business School: Your gateway to a global MBA experience

With millions of startups emerging each year, around 70% of small businesses survive their first two years, but only half make it past the five-year mark. This high failure rate stems from intense competition, economic uncertainties, shifting consumer preferences, and the constant need for innovation.

It’s just as tough for those working in organisations. With the rising retirement age and the reduction in job levels within a corporation, promotions are less frequent. The accelerated pace of technological change and, more recently, the advent of AI, are reshaping jobs as well, exacerbating the need for many to change careers. Few, however, have the privilege, confidence and support to make this big shift.

This is where an MBA can make a difference. A programme that addresses these challenges and takes place in multiple countries, like the one offered by ESCP Business School (ESCP), can provide big advantages that help you thrive in a cutthroat industry.

The only business school with six campuses across Europe’s key economic centres

Founded in 1819, ESCP is one of Europe’s leading business schools, making it a top choice for MBA candidates seeking an education built on centuries of experience. According to the Financial Times 2024 Global Rankings, ESCP’s MBA is ranked #25 worldwide and #8 in Europe.

What these rankings signal has long been known by ESCP MBA graduates: their programme is immersive and impactful. Within its diverse, global learning environment. every interaction brings valuable insights into different countries, sectors, and industries. With six campuses in Berlin, London, Madrid, Paris, Turin, and Warsaw, students have the unique opportunity to explore multiple cities and cultures throughout their programme.

Sreyashi Chattopadhyay, from Kolkata, India, was drawn to the programme’s global aspect. Previously, she held a sales role in a luxury hotel but when the COVID-19 pandemic hit her industry hard, she knew she had to explore new career paths and expand her horizons. “A huge part of my decision to study at ESCP was that it offered students a rich experience of living and studying in multiple European countries with an incredibly diverse cohort,” she says.

A challenging, career-transforming MBA

The ESCP MBA in International Management serves as a gateway to a successful business career, regardless of your background and location. The programme covers key areas of management, including core modules in Finance, Strategy & Organisation, Sustainability & Entrepreneurship, Data & Business, Economics, Financial & Managerial Accounting, Leadership & Team Building, Marketing, and Operations Management. With a focus on sustainability and corporate strategies that address climate change, the programme also focuses on the societal and environmental consequences of business practices.

Pursuing an MBA is no small feat. Even for those familiar with marketing, sales, or management, certain subjects can present challenges since these courses are designed to push boundaries and deepen understanding in ways that go beyond the basics. As such, you may find yourself grappling with complex theories and concepts that require a different level of analytical thinking and practical application — all of which will push you to think outside the box, encouraging you to approach problems from multiple angles and develop innovative solutions.

For another graduate, Léa El Kattar, finance was the most daunting but provided the most crucial knowledge for her career goals: gaining access to regional managerial positions in the medical technology industry. “It significantly enhanced my ability to make informed decisions in my current role,” she says. “Understanding financial concepts and evaluating investments are essential skills for making sound decisions, and the finance course equipped me with the necessary tools.”

El Kattar has come far since. After mastering finance, she made the most of her MBA – winning the Women in Leadership scholarship, joining networking events and alumni networks, and getting regular exposure to real-world situations. By using every resource available to her, she’s grown a lot, personally and professionally. “The MBA has been a real turning point in my career, and I was offered a job three months before graduation,” she says.

Today, El Kattar is in a managerial position heading Global Partnerships and Alliances at a multinational company and striving for greater impact by promoting more diversity in her workplace.

Chattopadhyay’s career trajectory is another example of the transformative power of an ESCP MBA. During the programme, she benefited from ESCP educators who went the extra mile to support her. For instance, she credits Associate Professor Farah Lynn at the Paris campus for her guidance on challenging topics. “Farah’s support during my project at the end of the course was crucial,” Chattopadhyay says. “Her engaging teaching style and real-life examples helped us grasp key concepts effectively.”

Through Company Consultancy Projects (CCPs), Chattopadhyay gained even more opportunities to learn about business reality and professional behaviour in an international and multicultural context. Working with two different companies on real-world projects in two countries, students explored concepts in the classroom and applied them to perform in-depth analyses and provide actionable recommendations.

“The two company consultancy projects were the highlight of my year,” Chattopadhyay says. “It gave me the chance to work with a team on specific challenges faced by companies. This experience was enriching in terms of learning and helped us build connections with professionals in those companies.”

The rigours of the programme have served Chattopadhyay well. Today she works in Paris as a Sustainability Project Manager for a Japanese beauty company. “The intensity of the MBA programme mirrors that of the working world where you have to manage multiple tasks and projects at the same time with strict deadlines,” she says. “Working in multiple groups prepares you to be present in a multicultural team with different working styles, and find a way to optimise team performance.”
