Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy (CHCA) has been consistently rated the #1 Christian Private School in Ohio by Niche. This is a remarkable feat, due to Niche’s real time data system that consistently updates information by using over 140 million reviews and ratings to rank America’s most prominent colleges and schools.
CHCA aims to provide students with a customized educational experience by offering programs that maintain a 12:1 faculty to student ratio. This ensures that students receive individualized attention and support from their teachers. In addition, CHCA offers a comprehensive selection of 26 rigorous Advanced Placement (AP) or BEYOND courses. Students are encouraged to choose an academic path that aligns with their interests and goals.
By providing a wide range of offerings, CHCA produces National Merit Scholars, as well as students who are accepted to Ivy League colleges each year. Although CHCA students are predominantly known to excel in academia, they are also known for producing champions in other areas. This year, they won state championships in girls’ tennis, robotics, as well as gold and silver medals in swimming — some of the many testaments to the dedication and hard work of students and coaches here.
Winning the state championship in robotics reflects CHCA’s commitment to promoting STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education. The robotics team demonstrated innovative thinking, technical expertise, and effective collaboration to come out on top. CHCA does more than just produce stellar athletes. In May, the high school robotics team, Beak Squad, became state champions for the fourth time over the past five seasons. The team works on building their skills and capabilities in mechanical design, electrical engineering, programming and control systems, strategy and data analysis, marketing and communications, and community/educational outreach.
“One of the many things I love about the Academy is that our students have the opportunity to explore and develop all of their God-given talents and abilities,” shares Sarah Hendrix, Team Head Coach. “In the case of robotics, these students demonstrate, strengthen, and honour incredible gifts that are often overlooked. More importantly, robotics offers some of our students a place to find purpose, even if (especially if) they aren’t a stereotypical ‘techie’.”
The success of the CHCA swim team in winning gold, silver and bronze medals highlights their outstanding performances in the pool. Competitive swimming demands discipline, endurance, and skill, and the team’s achievements demonstrate their dedication to the sport. Winning medals at the state level is a significant accomplishment and reflects the hard work put in by the swimmers and their coaches.
Don Rielag regularly trains other swimmers such as Taylor Bacher, who became state champion in the 200-yard freestyle and runner-up in the 500-yard freestyle. Bacher has already made a name for herself at the Academy with a four-year prep career. Over the years, she’s consistently won runner-up and top 10 places in a variety of different strokes. Participating in the 2023 state championships was about getting the job done.
“Just knowing that I was close last year was an inspiration for me this year,” Bacher said. “This is just an incredible feeling knowing that all of the work I’ve put in the whole year has paid off.”
These accomplishments in academia and extracurriculars make CHCA well-known in the community, state and in the world. Programmes here provide students with an elite education that provides opportunities for students to develop important life skills such as teamwork, perseverance, and leadership beyond the classroom. There is room for every talent and interest here. Alongside their student-athletes and scientists, a group of artists and writers won a range of awards in the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards.
For their stewardship, 134 students earned the President’s Volunteer Service Award — the premier national volunteer awards programme to honour service achievement. These are not only nationally recognised but given presidential gratitude as well. Whether it’s joining a sports team, participating in a robotics club, engaging in community service projects, or pursuing creative endeavours through their fine arts department, CHCA strives to provide each student with an extraordinary educational experience.
