Boston University Summer Term: The Opportunity of a Lifetime

Summer means different things to different people. For some, it’s the season to relax. For others, it’s a time to travel. For those pursuing summer study with Boston University (BU) Summer Term, it’s a time to discover a world of opportunities at a globally respected university in the nation’s top city for students. BU opens its doors annually to students keen on fusing the thrill of international travel with the joy of continued learning.

BU Summer Term offers more than 600 credit-bearing summer courses in 60-plus subjects, including Accounting, Advertising, Art History, Biochemistry, Business, Cinema & Media Studies, Communication, Computer Science, Criminal Justice, Deaf Studies, Earth & Environment, Economics, Finance, Health Sciences, International Relations, Management, Mathematics, Music, Political Science, Psychology, Statistics, Theology, Urban Affairs, and Women’s & Gender Studies.

So, whether you’re looking to dig deeper into your current major, explore new interests, enrich your portfolio, or simply explore the halls once walked by the likes of Martin Luther King, Jr., BU’s extensive catalogue of summer courses ensures there’s something for everyone.

These courses are taught by award-winning faculty members from 12 of BU’s 17 schools and colleges.

“I actually looked up the staff before coming here, and they seem to be very reputable, especially for the courses that I was going to take,” shares a student from Hong Kong. “They really helped me and guided me apart from just within the classroom. I went to them for consultations about what I can do in my future career and it was very nice to hear their opinions, because in Hong Kong you get different answers—especially due to our different cultures.”

Visiting students are given access to a wealth of resources during their time at BU, ensuring their academic success and overall enjoyment. For example, you can go to the Educational Resource Centre to work with a peer tutor and get advice and writing assistance. But a summer at BU is not only about learning; it’s also an experience that immerses you in the best of American campus life.

As a BU Summer Term student, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to socialise. Throughout the short-term programme, Summer Term staff members organise fun activities that provide the perfect setting for you to make new friends, expand your network, and create lasting memories. Boston, with its sunlit streets, rich history, and picturesque landscapes, serves as the ideal backdrop for you to do just that and more.

Beyond campus, you can explore the city’s iconic landmarks, immerse yourself in its vibrant culture, and enjoy trips to neighbouring cities and states in your free time. It’s easy to get around thanks to the city’s efficient metro system, known as the “T.” Community events, sandy shores, and trendy nightlife spots are all just a short student-friendly trip away. After all, this is the best city in the US and 10th best in the world for students, according to QS Best Student Cities 2024.

There’s just as much to do on campus, too. Academic resources aside, BU is home to the state-of-the-art Fitness & Recreation Centre (FitRec)—a 270,000-square-foot facility for swimming, jogging, practising yoga, playing squash or volleyball, spinning, dancing, or rock climbing.

“I played tennis a lot and I played basketball in the Fitness & Recreation Centre. The sports, the life, the people—I’m going to miss it,” shares another student. “This is my first experience in the US, so I got to discover its culture and I definitely have a more global view now of what I’m going to do later in my career.”
