Artist Katie Johnson has always loved Monsters.
Ever since she can remember, she’s adored the “fun creative dump” that is the process of conjuring wacky creatures and putting them down on paper.
“You can make a monster out of anything,” she told Upworthy, “So when I was younger, that was my go-to when I felt like drawing.”
As Johnson grew up, she had no idea that her love of drawing Monsters would become such a big part of her life. After working as a designer for an advertising firm in Texas, Johnson decided to pick up her childhood drawing passion and turn it into something big – enter The Monster Project.
The project invited a teeny-tiny team of budding primary school artists to create their finest Monsters, so that a team of not-so-tiny artists could then recreate them in an entirely new perspective – and the results are simply fantastic!
“Kids draw monsters, then artists from all over the world recreate them in their own styles,” the website explains. “We hope to help children recognize the power of their own imaginations and to encourage them to pursue their creative potential.”
