In these unprecedented times, education has certainly been a talking point! Danes Hill School has provided first class virtual learning for all their pupils and was delighted to open its doors once again on Monday 22 June for the last two weeks of the Summer Term.
Danes Hill School, located in the village of Oxshott, Surrey, is widely recognised as one of the leading co-educational, day, preparatory schools in the country, providing pupils aged 3 to 13 with a broad and balanced curriculum.
There’s no question that a Danes Hill education is shaped by the school’s excellent facilities. Situated on 55-acres of beautiful, landscaped grounds, the facilities are second-to-none, designed to enhance the excellent standard of teaching and broaden the student experience.
The pre-prep school Bevendean has newly-refurbished classrooms and state-of-the-art computer suite with access to iPads. Children from the age of 3 have one lesson a week in French or Spanish.
Bevendean facilities particularly lend themselves to an outdoor-learning approach, with an amazing adventure playground and pirate ship, swimming lessons in their on-site pool and weekly visits to the Paddock for Forest School where children are encouraged to appreciate and understand the world around them.
The Paddock is a particularly unique feature of Danes Hill. It’s a lovely open space, with a wood and pond the school uses for camping trips and outdoor learning opportunities, such as those of the school’s Eco Committee.
The prep school upholds the same excellent standard of indoor and outdoor facilities. The library has been refurbished, providing views to the Headmaster’s Terrace and an excellent atmosphere for learning. Meanwhile, your child also benefits from state-of-the-art classrooms and five fully-equipped science labs. The much awaited indoor sports hall, which boasts its own climbing wall, is due to be completed in Autumn 2020.
With an excellent Design and Technology Department where students have access to laser cutters and 3D printers, plus numerous musical opportunities to take part in Orchestra, String Orchestra, Jazz Band and other small ensembles, over 340 Danes Hill students are able to play an instrument! Your child will have unparalleled opportunities to explore the arts.
Even further outside the classroom, the school really makes the most of its grounds, utilising the space to enrich the student experience as much as possible. As well as the pre-prep playground, older pupils can enjoy a larger adventure playground with a zip-wire!
Sport is an important part life at Danes Hill and all pupils are encouraged to develop their talents and participate in this fun and inclusive environment.
The sports facilities comprise cricket, football and hockey pitches, netball and tennis courts, with 15 sports pitches in total, including one full size competition astro pitch, seven senior rugby pitches, seven senior football pitches and an amazing 25-metre heated, indoor/outdoor swimming pool and spectator area.
In fact, the school’s ethos stresses the total development of each child: spiritual, moral, intellectual, social, emotional and physical. The school calls this ‘Educating the Whole Child’, and it’s something that staff take great pride in daily and throughout each child’s Danes Hill journey.
Children educated at Danes Hill are known to be self-confident and outgoing. The school encourages pupils not only to achieve their full academic potential, but also to develop a wide range of non-academic interests, from sport to music and drama.
With specialist teachers and heads of subject teaching throughout the school, this nurturing environment not only provides excellent personalised, pastoral care but also impressive academic results.
Each year, a large number Danes Hill pupils are awarded scholarships and exhibition awards from a wide range of day and boarding senior schools. In 2020, Danes Hill School pupils gained 45 senior school scholarships.
Furthermore, in 2020, all common entrance pupils successfully gained entry to their chosen institution.
Destinations for Danes Hill pupils include some of the most well-regarded secondary schools worldwide, for example Charterhouse, Eton College, Epsom College, King’s College School Cheltenham Ladies’ College and Harrow School.
From your child’s first, nervous arrival at the school’s door, Danes Hill begins to transform them into self-confident teenagers, ready to tackle secondary education and any challenges it may bring.
With its close proximity to London and an extensive network of bus routes, Danes Hill is the first choice for discerning prospective parents.
