4 reasons why today’s (and tomorrow’s) lawyers should choose the University of Bradford

Law is more than just a profession that has been admired and respected throughout history. It’s a field that touches many aspects of our daily lives, from the moment you wake up until you go to sleep. But beyond its practical, functional, and aspirational aspects, law is a career that evokes a profound sense of purpose and meaning in those pursuing it.

Ask any University of Bradford School of Law student, and they will tell you that their chosen discipline is both a career and a calling. Regardless of the reason, this law school draws many aspiring legal eagles every year to its dynamic and globally focused undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Here’s why:

There is something for everyone

Through a partnership with the School of Management, this law school offers a Law with Business and Management LLB (Hons) and a BSc in Business Studies and Law on top of the traditional Law LLB (Hons). In addition, we have launched a new 4-year MLaw (Hons) which embeds bespoke preparatory courses for the new SQE examinations and is the first in the UK. These accredited programmes cover core foundational modules with an option to join legal clinics where you’ll advise clients under the guidance of a Clinic Director.

All undergraduate programmes provide a wide range of optional modules. You can tailor your degree according to your interests and career aspirations. There is even an option to include a professional placement year in industry, which extends your degree to four years.

Upskillers and reskillers with diverse aspirations can also easily work toward their goals at Bradford School of Law, thanks to the wide range of specialist LLM offerings. They include LLM programmes focused on International Commercial Law, International Banking and Financial Technology Law, International Corporate Law and Governance, and many more. Again, the School has led the way by offering two-year versions of these LLM degrees that include bespoke SQE preparatory courses and work experience in our Law Clinic. This provides a clearly defined and supported pathway to qualification as a solicitor in England & Wales.

The best part? You can study these LLMs full-time or part-time on campus or by distance learning. There is no requirement for you to have an undergraduate law degree to study an LLM and these programmes include additional support on foundations of law and academic skills to mitigate any knowledge or capacity gaps and enhance the learning experience.

Access to cutting-edge research

Bradford School of Law houses an active research community which consists of academics, students, and external partners. Together, they create new knowledge that positively influence policy and practice.

Here, research is interdisciplinary and is divided into three main strands: Technology and Commerce, Environment, Sustainability Regulation, and Human Rights, Equality and Diversity. By joining the PhD programme, you get to learn from and work under the supervision of the school’s international, experienced, and highly committed faculty. You will also present your work in research seminars, the University’s international conferences and the annual postgraduate research student conference

Ensuring optimum employability

At Bradford School of Law, you’ll have plenty of chances to apply theory and master skills, such as through legal clinics, placements, and work experience opportunities open exclusively to students in collaboration with the law school’s partner organisations. What’s more, at the Lady Hale Moot Court, you get to be part of simulated court proceedings — it’s part of the curriculum — and take part in external mooting competitions. You will also benefit from working alongside staff in our Law Clinic who possess national and international legal experience and who have worked both regionally as well as in the City.

That’s not all. Overseas placements, international exchange programmes, and international study abroad programmes are part of the law school’s effort to connect students to their peers and other faculty members across the globe. In fact, over 60% of students and over 50% of faculty members at Bradford School of Law come from outside the UK.

Out of the 12 weeks of a typical academic term, one full week is dedicated to the Career Booster Programme, with sessions delivered by industry experts, academics and alumni. Specialist support is also available throughout the course from Career and Employability Services, including help finding part-time work while studying, placements, vacation work, and graduate vacancies.

Enriching partnerships

Bradford School of Law boasts partnerships with leading institutions in the UK and beyond to offer training, scholarships, and placements that enrich academic journeys. The lineup includes the UK Government’s Legal Department, key law firms, and reputable universities across India, Malaysia, Nigeria, and Ghana.
