Sept 5 is Teachers’ Day in India, a day that fills classrooms across the country with cards, chocolates, flowers and performances by students.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi saluted the tireless teachers for their devotion to “nurturing minds and spreading the joys of education in society”, calling them the key persons to building “New India”, the recently outlined five-year roadmap for national development.

Being the digital era, people want their appreciation shown online as well. And while there are the usual tributes to the teachers that made a difference in their lives, many messages were also, what we shall say, less conventional.
