What does a township need?

Homes, of course. Communal areas such as parks and sports facilities. Some medical facilities, proper infrastructure to get to places, and… what are we missing…

Right. Schools, definitely.

Located in Rawang, Selangor, Gamuda Gardens is a relatively new township by Gamuda Land. It’s home to properties, a theme park, a mall, and numerous sporting facilities. And while it has some public schools in the works, it didn’t have a primary and secondary education institution ready to take in young minds. At least, that was up until Sept. 8, which was when Taylor’s Education Group opened the doors to its very first Lexel International Schools campus.

A look inside Lexel International School

The new Lexel International School is a project made possible thanks to a strategic partnership between TEG and Gamuda Land. The two companies saw an opportunity to combine their expertise to offer affordable private education in master-planned communities. With their synergy, Lexel was created, and its first campus was opened in Gamuda Gardens on Sept. 8, 2025.

A portmanteau of “lexicon” and “excellence,” Lexel International Schools is the totally new brand created by TEG. Its Gamuda Gardens campus (which is itself called Lexel International School) might have a relatively small footprint for an international school. However, it provides access to a rather deep education.

It offers students a unique campus with well-lit, large classrooms, labs, as well as a library, a multi-purpose hall, and a canteen. Stationed in the centre of town, it provides easy access to amenities including an Olympic-length swimming pool, a Wellness Centre, indoor badminton courts, and extensive parks, walking trails, and water features. The partnership with Gamuda Land really shines when it comes to providing students with top-notch facilities to support learning outside of the classroom.

When two powerhouses meet

Malaysia’s private and international school sector has grown rapidly over the past decade. Between 2019 and 2024, local student enrolment in international schools increased by 34%, driven by a growing middle class and rising demand for globally relevant, English-medium education.

At the same time, Malaysia’s national plan continues to strengthen its position as a regional education hub, with the government targeting 250,000 international students by 2025.

Despite this growth, many families face barriers such as high tuition fees and limited proximity to reputable schools.

With that in mind, Lexel International Schools seeks to lead the affordable international school category in Malaysia. It already has plans to open a second campus in Gamuda Cove.

Speaking at the launch, Karl Engkvist, President of Taylor’s Education Private Limited, emphasised the strategic importance of expanding access to international education as part of Taylor’s long-term growth and social impact agenda. “Taylor’s has always been committed to shaping the future of education in Malaysia and beyond. Lexel International Schools represents a strategic step in delivering high-quality international education at an affordable price point.”

Admissions for Lexel International School in Gamuda Gardens is now open. Families interested in enrolling can visit their website.
