LSE’s Executive Global Master’s in Management: Flexible, global, and career-boosting

In today’s globalised world, the best managers and leaders are those who can adapt to different international business cultures. The Executive Global Master’s in Management (EGMiM) at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) does just that by offering a global perspective. The programme includes practical learning through two international modules in Bangalore, and Cape Town. This setup helps students tackle current global business issues and understand diverse management practices.

The EGMiM begins in London, extending to modules in Bangalore and Cape Town, allowing students to apply their knowledge in varied contexts. Each international module provides direct exposure to local business environments. Just ask Hüseyin Güntaş who found the Cape Town module most enriching.

“We visited offices like Deloitte and explored local businesses. We even spent a day in the vineyards of Cape Town, learning about the success of local multinational beverages,” he says. “Although our main focus was foreign direct investments in South Africa, this module offered a comprehensive view of an emerging market and how multinationals thrive there.”

Such immersive experiences exemplify how the EGMiM prepares students for global business challenges. This practical approach was a key factor for Catalina Troncoso, who, before becoming the Director of Finance at wherEX — a digital platform optimizing corporate spending across Latin America — was a Head of Management. Troncoso credits her decision to join the EGMiM at LSE as a pivotal moment in her career. “LSE doesn’t just teach you things for the sake of it; they push you to question how to put different techniques into practice,” she says.

Ranked sixth globally for social science and management, and third for business and management, LSE’s reputation speaks for itself.

Now in its 13th year, the EGMiM programme covers the essentials of a traditional MBA but with a twist. It’s built for working professionals and made up of seven short, intensive modules over 17 months. This structure only requires nine weeks out of the office, allowing students to work full-time while earning their degree.

What you learn can be applied at once. This means you can bring new insights from the classroom to your workplace. This not only sharpens your skills but also offers value to your employers. And as the programme is grounded in global views, you’ll be trained to lead in today’s interconnected world too. Just ask recent graduate Eve Rabin.

“EGMiM checked a ton of boxes for me,” she says. “First of all, I’d had a crush on London for quite some time. Secondly, it allowed me the freedom to keep my job. And lastly, the global nature of the programme is so relevant to my role, and that was super exciting for me.”

The EGMiM is well-suited for business leaders or those aspiring to leadership roles who wish to work globally. Both LSE and the programme are well-known for its impact in the UK and beyond. “You’re at a world-renowned university,” says Dr Christine Côté, Programme Director. “Learning from experts in the fields, amongst the faculty and it really is allowing students to come away with this really strong understanding of the global context and how that might affect their business.”

Adding to this rich experience is the diverse cohort of the EGMiM. Last year’s cohort represented multiple countries. Most participants have over five years of professional experience and have achieved significant career success in management and leadership roles.

“The programme’s benefits are large for both the participants and the organisations for which they work,” Dr Côté says. “I think they also benefit greatly from their interactions with each other. This is a diverse group in terms of their business backgrounds, their cultural backgrounds, and just the experiences that they bring to the classroom, which is so enriching.”

Along with such cross-cultural experiences, the programme gets you evolving into a thinking leader. The programme challenges you not just to learn management “trends” but to critically analyse why these trends exist and how to approach them. This aligns with LSE’s motto, “Rerum cognoscere causas” — “to understand the causes of things.”

“True to LSEs’ motto, EGMiM exists to deepen one’s critical understanding of business and management, not just its application,” says graduate David Lin. “This is what makes EGMiM different. The programme aims to enrich a student’s career, not just their next job title. It’s an academically driven senior management programme, that combines the best of LSEs’ theoretical rigor with real-world business application.
