From a gothic, death-obsessed and dressed for it Jenna Ortega to a living dismembered hand, the Wednesday cast is a joy to watch as they celebrate all things dark.

Netflix’s newest series, “Wednesday,” has quickly become a fan favourite (and a global hit, with a record-breaking 341.23 million hours viewed on its debut week).

The spin-off of “The Addams Family film.” directed by Tim Burton, is now the second most popular English-language series on Netflix. It surpassed one billion total hours viewed just three weeks after its debut on Nov. 16. 

The show follows the Addams’s only daughter, Wednesday, as she juggles attending boarding school at Nevermore Academy and her newfound psychic powers. The deliciously twisted teen, whose idea of fun involves electrocuting her brother, has become everyone’s favourite goth.

We’re hooked on its macabre delights — thanks to a talented Wednesday cast that brings the shenanigans of a mysterious-solving teen and her spooky family to life.

Wednesday

Christina Ricci 

Christina Ricci started off her acting career playing Wednesday Addams in the ’90s’s “The Addams Family “films. She now joins the Wednesday cast as Marilyn Thornhill — a teacher at Nevermore Academy.

Despite her early start to fame, Ricci did her best to complete her education while balancing her busy acting schedule. 

When she was young, she moved to New Jersey with her family, where she attended Morristown-Beard School, a coeducational, independent, college-preparatory day school, before she moved to New York.

Ricci then attended the Professional Children’s School, a non-profit college preparatory school that nurtures aspiring child actors and dancers from grade six up to grade 12.

Luis Guzmán

With over 40 years of experience, Luis Guzmán is one of the oldest in the cast and is known for his many roles in movies and TV shows. However, this Puerto Rican actor was initially not interested in acting. 

Guzmán graduated from The City College of New York. This public university is the first free public institution of higher education in the US.

After college, Guzmán went on to work as a youth counsellor at the  Henry Street Settlement House, a socio-cultural centre on the Lower East Side.

He slowly began pursuing acting as a hobby and became an active street theatre artist.

Gwendoline Christie 

Most known for her role as Brienne of Tarth in the TV series “Game of Thrones,” English actress Gwendoline Christie plays the role of Larissa Weems in “Wednesday.”

As a child, Christie was into gymnastics and even took part in competitions. After suffering a spinal injury, she had to let this passion go.

The bright side is that this led her to acting. She joined the Drama Centre London, a British drama school located at King’s Cross.

Joy Sunday

Joy Sunday began her career in 2015 by acting in a few short movies before moving on to bigger projects.

Before her acting career began, Sunday studied at the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music and Art and Performing Arts, a public high school in New York City that specialises in teaching visual and performing arts.

Here, she learned to act from Harry Shifman, Doc Schneider, Ross Tatum, and Sandra Aldini.

She then joined the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts, where she graduated with a degree in critical studies.
