Top 3 reasons you should join summer schools

During pre-pandemic times, you spend the whole school year looking forward to the summer holidays. No lessons, no exams, just weeks and weeks of freedom enjoying the sun playing beach volleyball whilst getting tanned. Unfortunately for many of us, that hasn’t been the case since COVID-19 hit. With the end of the pandemic in closer sight, however, students around the world can once again sign up for summer schools.

Now the biggest question is why would anyone want to study during the summer holidays? Summer school isn’t strictly about studying — there’s always fun scheduled into it. Think of summer schools as the ideal balance of both.

This balance is important — 24/7 of “fun” stuff can get tired fast. You could run out of money and can’t afford to do anything. You’ve watched everything there is to watch on Netflix and played all the backlog of games you reserved just for this occasion.

Summer schools, which last from a week to two months, can offer just the right amount of jazz to this monotony. Here are three of the top reasons why you should join:

Socialise and make new friends

In summer schools, you can meet people you’ve never met before from all walks of life. You can mingle and trade stories with them about all the shows you’ve watched or all the games you’ve played throughout the pandemic.

For the introverts out there, don’t feel left out, there is always someone you can mingle with throughout your time at summer school. So, don’t just sit in the corner all alone, strike up a conversation and you might find a really close buddy at summer school.

Fun in the sun

What better way to spend your summer than to have fun and games out in the sun. Besides getting some Vitamin D and competition, there’s always a plethora of sports and other curricular activities that help you keep in shape while spending quality time with your friends.

It doesn’t necessarily have to be sports, you can also go for a brisk jog or swim a few laps at the pool (if your school has them) to cool yourself off. Just step outside and enjoy the sun, breathe the fresh air, take in the sights and just enjoy every minute you have there. Trust me, you’d definitely look forward to this after a long day of classes.

The best kind of learning

At the end of the day, summer school is still school, and school means there’s learning to be done. Since the pandemic happened, students around the world have definitely missed out a lot on important studies. It’s the best time to catch up with the rest of your coursemates if you’re missing out on any skills you haven’t learned yet.

The course content of summer schools vary — some will have classes related to a specific subject area which you will select before you join, and others will be aimed at improving English Language skills.

If you’re aiming to be at the top of the class for any of these, there’s no better place but summer schools. Plus, there’s definitely no harm in gaining more knowledge just for the sake of it.
