International students in India may now finalise their study permit applications to Canada at newly-reopened visa application centres (VACs) across the country, which include four new centres. Indian citizens may schedule their biometrics appointments, with priority given to international students and family class applicants. The biometric test is the final step in obtaining a Canadian study permit.
According to CIC News, VACs in Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chandigarh, Jalandhar, Mumbai, and New Delhi, resumed services on Nov. 20, 2020. On top of that, new centres are now open in Kolkata, Pune, Chennai, and Hyderabad. Anyone who wants to submit a Canadian visa application must submit their biometrics, which includes fingerprints and a photograph. A small fee is applicable.

Students prioritised for Canadian visa application
CIC News pointed out that although international students have been exempted from Canada’s travel restrictions, many were unable to travel because they had not yet submitted their biometrics. Only those exempted from Canada’s travel rules may book biometric appointments for now. This consists of two groups: those going to study at a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) in Canada, as well as those applying for permanent residence as a spouse, common-law partner, or dependent child.
How to schedule a biometric appointment?
You must book your appointment in advance by filling out a form on the VAC website. Then, wait for the e-mail confirming your appointment. Move fast as there are limited appointments available to finalise your Canadian visa application. However, the government assures that more appointments will become available each week.
You should receive instructions on scheduling your biometric appointment along with your Biometric Instructions Letter from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
