Portugal is now one of Europe’s fastest-growing tech hubs, rising front and centre on the global stage. The country has a growing startup scene filled with innovative enterprises earning them the title “Silicon Valley of Europe.” Amidst the country’s 250 days of sunshine, pristine beaches, and no shortage of charm and culture, you’ll find the University of Porto, home to the acclaimed Porto Business School.
Rankings tell of its success. The school is 53rd in the Financial Times European Business School Rankings 2023 — placing it among the region’s best b-schools for the 12th consecutive year. Its MBA ranks among the top 40 in Europe and holds triple international accreditation – AMBA, AACSB, and EFMD – a feat achieved by only 2% of business schools worldwide.
Always thinking big and thinking ahead, the school adopted a new management cycle last year. It aimed to rethink its global positioning and redesign its programmes to align with market needs, talent, and international standards. “Porto Business School has 35 years of academic excellence and societal impact,” says dean José Esteves. “Throughout this journey, Porto Business School has been training business leaders who have contributed to the development of Portugal and the world.”
This global mindset is also reflected in partnerships with international companies and schools.
The International MBA: Immersive and impactful
International MBA students learn by doing. They participate in classes, workshops, and simulations. It’s here that they learn advanced theory in innovation, entrepreneurship, sustainability, and more, before engaging with, reflecting on, and applying this new knowledge in real life.
Depending on their personal goals, students can choose between an 11-month or 15-month programme. Whether they opt for an accelerated experience or an extended one, all will benefit from the International MBA’s robust courses and global networking opportunities. Over half of the participants are from abroad, enriching discussions with their diverse worldviews and global perspectives.
“I was living and working in Florida and I felt like I needed something else to take me to the next level,” says graduate Jordan Lewis, MBA graduate. “I wanted a change in life, so that’s why I chose Porto Business School.”
Students like Jordan Lewis find more than a change in life here. Over 50% of International MBA graduates have gone on to make career shifts. “The impact that the International MBA had on my professional and personal life is very big – I did not go back to the US,” says Lewis. “I stayed here and started working in Portugal for a Portuguese multinational company.”
International MBA graduates are in big demand. Up to 93% of graduates have found employment within six months of completing the programme, with some working with giants such as Deloitte, PWC, Sonae, and others.
Everyone’s welcome to follow their paths to success. As the school strives to provide equal opportunities for all students, there are over 10 scholarship options to be awarded to those with the greatest potential to create change on a global scale.
The Digital MBA: For unparalleled convenience
As the world heads into a future of rapid technological growth, so do Porto Business School and its graduates. The Digital MBA offers the same comprehensive learning experience as the International MBA, but with added flexibility due to its online nature.
The digital aspect is its appeal. As the programme can be accessed from anywhere, more students can get resources and networking opportunities that are typically exclusive to on-campus programmes. What’s more, they can choose between a 17-month or 28-month programme, and customise it around their personal or professional commitments.
“The programme combines elements of a traditional MBA, with topics in the field of digital transformation,” says Rosário Moreira, Programme Director.
Students master the essentials of Management and Administration, with opportunities to specialise in topics related to digital transformation. Topics include Machine Learning for Executives, Digital Marketing, Advanced Analytics, Cybersecurity and Privacy, Internet of Things (IoT) and Smart Technologies, Blockchain and Fintech, among others.
All courses are designed to provide a global view of business and society, similar to the on-campus International MBA. It also offers the same networking opportunities with peers, companies, and business individuals, allowing for a rich exchange of ideas and conversations from people of many walks of life.
