University College Cork (UCC) is synonymous with prestige and excellence. Its accolades speak volumes: top Irish university for research impact as measured by Times Higher Education’s citation score, top Irish university for industry collaboration (Knowledge Transfer Ireland), and one of the top 150 universities globally for international faculty (QS World University Rankings).

UCC’s School of Law is just as prolific. Ranked among the world’s Top 100 law schools (59th) in the 2023 QS World University Rankings by Subject, the school focuses on producing graduates who are knowledgeable, informed and proficient in their fields. Its world-class faculty is highly engaged in cutting-edge legal scholarship and their work is regularly published in leading international journals or funded by bodies like the European Research Council, European Commission or Irish Research Council.

“I have learned many new pieces of academic knowledge and practical skills from the lecturers, the guests (such as senior compliance and policy managers, senior lawyers, [and] legal researchers and policy advocates), and my classmates,” shares Thao Vu Thi Dieu, a Law LLM (Intellectual Property and E-Law) graduate.

Opportunities for real-world exposure

The School of Law prepares students for successful careers. Much of this is down to its law clinics that bridge the gap between academic teaching, research work, and law reforms — opening the doors for on-site experiential learning that often proves invaluable to a student's future career.

Diverse career pathways

Each programme is designed to offer students maximum flexibility in crafting their professional futures. A wide range of options, ranging from criminal, medical, and human rights law to internet, environmental and intellectual property law, lets students curate a curriculum that lets their strengths and interests shine. Along the way, they pick up various soft skills, like critical thinking and creativity, that can take their careers far.

All in all, it’s a dynamic approach with big impact. Graduates from these programmes have the know-how to not only contribute to their chosen organisations, but also to their respective communities — whether they are in legal practice, public service, or working for non-profits.

My long-term goal is to become a subject matter expert in supply chain, which is the backbone of the industry. I found BGSU's Logistics Systems Engineering program is a combination of engineering and management, which helps me to enhance my knowledge and skills. I joined BGSU in January 2022 and got the opportunity to work as a Graduate Assistant on an industrial project under the guidance of Dr. Sarder.
