Foundational liberal arts skills, experiential opportunities, and tech and data integration — this is the dynamic mix that the Northeastern University College of Social Sciences and Humanities (CSSH) knows best. Led by expert faculty, programs here use the ever-relevant topics of history, economics, international affairs, urban informatics, social analysis, and more to address the greatest challenges of our time.

CSSH master’s students have access to robust experiential learning opportunities. They can kick-start their careers or gain research experience through Northeastern’s signature co-op program. They have the chance to work within an urban community to discover new solutions to persistent problems. The university’s network comprises over 3,100 global corporate partners who are ever-willing to put their trust in its students and graduates.

CSSH master’s students have found positions at the Office of the Attorney General of Massachusetts, Vertex Pharmaceuticals, Massachusetts Office of the Inspector General, Indigo Agriculture, Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA), and several other esteemed organizations.

Many learners use this opportunity to spark positive change in the world by confronting social, economic, and environmental problems. For instance, Rose Leopold (Security and Resilience Studies`17) examined the resiliency of Boston’s Logan International Airport for her final project and presented to a state government agency. Currently, she consults as an emergency management specialist for Facebook.




Career paths abroad

Antonio Vázquez
Brust

Antonio Vázquez Brust (Urban Informatics `17) completed an internship at the American City Coalition, a non-profit focused on neighborhood revitalization. He later returned to his native Argentina, where he launched a new data lab at Universidad Torcuato Di Tella’s School of Government.
