The College of Engineering at Lamar University (LU) is focused on giving students a headstart in their careers. “The college is committed to preparing students to be job-ready,” says Brian Craig, Dean. “We have also modernised our labs in all departments and added a new Emerson Advanced Technology Center with the most recent Delta-V control systems. We have upgraded computer labs and systems. The faculty and I are fully committed to preparing our graduates for the digital transformation.”

LU’s faculty are involved in research and publications which are transforming the industry. One of the many perks of joining LU is that students have opportunities to be part of these important developments. Perhaps what’s even more impactful is how these expert faculty truly care about the success of their students — a key reason why the college is ranked third in 2024 for return on investment as ranked by Payscale.com. In fact, the university is consistently ranked high in this survey due to its affordable cost and great career outcomes.

LU graduates stand out for their ability to handle software, which includes Python, Aspen, SolidWorks, MATHLAB, ANYSIS, Autodesk Fusion 360, ERP/SAP, PLC Programming, and MySQL. This know-how matches what the job market needs and readies graduates to lead digital transformation projects.

Hear from students

“Lamar University was a great choice for me due to the wide range of coursework. My interest was in solid mechanics and machine design. Some of my favourite courses included material selection in design, controls of mechanical systems, fracture and fatigue mechanics, advanced stress analysis, advanced finite element methods, and optimisation and design of thermal systems. The coursework helped strengthen my skills and concepts in the field of solid mechanics and machine design. ”

Dhaval Desai, Mechanical Engineering

“The Industrial Engineering curriculum is unique due to the emphasis on software implementation of the ideas discussed in the classroom. My lab mates and I are more than ready for our future roles due to coursework that emphasises software skills and applied research projects.”

Pooyan Mobtahej, Industrial Engineering

“As part of this project, I have been surveying elevations at various flood sensor sites to establish the flood stage alerting thresholds on a mapping database. I am collaborating and sharing the elevation and water stage data with several state and federal agencies like the Texas Department of Transportation, Houston Transtar, and the National Weather Service.”
